Tyler Cameron: What I really think of the Jokiharju / Nylander trade Where do I sit with my emotions now that I've had time to think?

Well, still mildly perplexed, mixed with a little resentment.

Let's first separate the player Henri Jokiharju, then evaluate the trade as a whole.

"All I can surmise from the question above is that Bowman has a master plan and is sticking with it."

There's a good chance this is incorrect.

Seems closer to a blind man playing darts.

"Bowman has come out and said he specifically targeted the younger Nylander even going as far as saying they loved him in his draft year but didn't have a pick in the first round."

This kind of just sounds like Bowman's typical spin - like when he said he was always targeting Jurco but everyone else in the hockey insider biz said it was Tatar he was after but couldn't get.

I always wondered what the problem was with the younger Nylander...

If only Tanner could write well thought out articles like yours.

Now that I moved out to Arizona and reading more of Tanner's "blogs" it like he's bipolar.

Say hawks put AA and Perlini as a trade package what team would be a fit and for what are the hawks looking for specifically? Or would it be a cash dump and Perlini is the sweetern in the deal? Imo Ottawa rangers islanders florida Carolina and Columbus are most likely teams for a possible trade to be had.

Agreed. I just can't believe otherwise or I'll get angry that Jokiharju was dumped for the forst thing that came along.

Y'all dont think right now as is this Blackhawks team is not more competitive than last years team?

The roster today is light years better than it was at the end of last season.

New coach gets an entire training camp and

As far as the forwards go the top 6 could always score but now there is a TON of competition for the bottom 6 every single night.

The D corpse is a lot better off than it was last season

Both goalies are on expiring deals and will probably be the best they have been heading into a free agent summer.

Its still July and other moves can be made.

Word has it, Gus was on his way to airport, bags packed, with this message board on his phone....and was just pissed he was not traded.

Can't believe Gus has not been traded yet.....

Meanwhile there was a finnish future Norris Joki-jerk out front of the UC...allegedly well attended by the HB crowd....rumor has it..Gus had his Uber driver drop him off to participate.....

To be honest, Joki was going to be expendable anyways and probably only would have gotten regular playing time this year if and when Gus is/was moved by the deadline or offseason in a Scott Darling-like scenario. Thus giving him half-a-year of consistent playing time with Boqvist nipping at the heels. Moving forward, you can't trade Murphy or Seabs. Murphy because he is the best defensive RHD on the team and maybe the whole organization (yes, RHD), and Seabrook won't be traded because well...(looks at contract)....you know. Come 2020 you're going to have Boqvist - Murphy - Seabrook manning the RHD spots and that probably won't change barring something crazy. But then again, Stan is known for doing some crazy stuff.

Nylander works because for some reason, 1st round forwards who never panned out, more times than not, flourish here. Plus if you look at the organizational depth, we are loaded at Center (Dach, Barratt, Wise, Entwistle, Saarela, etc.) but look weak at Winger depth outside of maybe Wedin, Kubalik, Teply, and Kursahev (even though he's listed at Center). Nylander can be moved anywhere from 1LW to either 2RW or 3RW depending on if Perlini is traded. It's a head-scratcher but it's understandable from Stan's point of view. Even though I feel like we could have acquired a better forward prospect for Joki.

Shaw - Toews - Kane
DeBrincat - Strome - Nylander
Kubalik - Kampf - Saad
Caggiula - Carpenter - Wedin/Q/Sikura

Keith - Gus
Maatta - Murphy
Dahlstrom/Koekkoek - Seabs

This lineup is made in anticipation of AA and Perlini being moved for draft picks.

No doubt a better team at this point. If they would only trade Gus....

Im sure he has a master plan, just doesn't necessarily mean it is good.

I'm gonna be honest, I am perplexed by the trade. Came back from a hike yesterday and saw it on my phone, I didn't believe the people that were texting me.

I agree Paulish. I like a lot of what's happened this summer. Just not loving this last trade... but trying to stay open-minded.

I've just been waiting for the madness to die down to start expressing my excitement for what's to come in 2019-20.

I will be breaking down everything from individual positions, where I see their offence and the much improved team defence.

The Hawks lost next to nothing (as of today) in terms of goal scoring and significant shored up their D.

Looking forward to breaking down the rest of the Central Division and making my predictions before September as well.

I think Mitchell is in that conversation as well.

I know I’m the smaller percentage here, but I like the trade.

To me, neither guy has really proven their worth at the NHL level yet. They could become something or they might not.

Joki has some great looks, but he also seems like he struggles a bit with his confidence - which makes sense for a young player (especially a defenseman). It also seemed like he fell out of favor with Hawks brass, though I’m not sure why. Agreed that it’s weird to move a guy when you kind of have a thin blue line to begin with.

I know the knocks on Nylander are many, but let’s see what he’s got.

Maybe the trade gives both guys a fresh start/perspective.

Time to finish up Stranger Things...

I am excited to see what Nylander can bring in terms of skill but awfully worried about all of the other stuff.

Thought Joki had enough confidence... heard he was even cocky at times. We'll see how he works out in Buffalo.

Don't say anything about Stranger Things... not finished yet. Ha.

After all the recent moves, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Mitchell decides to play out his college career and goes the UFA route.

Can't say I blame him. Once a player has reached the end of their ELC, off they go.
