In my case you're preaching to the choir. I think Saad is gone before his NTC kicks in July 1, 2020.
Don't think Murphy will be gone either. Remember in two summers Hawks have to expose a D in the draft who is under contract for 21/22. Right now Keith, Seabs, Murphy , Maatta, DeHaan fit the bill. Assuming 2 and 7 don't waive their NMC, two of the latter 3 will be exposed and one possibly lost. If Murphy moved before hand, two of the veteran "younger" defenseman will be lost. Don't think in a couple of years the Hawks will want to depend on two aging defensemen Keith and Seabs, and 3 or 4 newbies. - boilermaker100
Oh, nice catch. I didn't know he had a mod-NTC in his last season. |

Simple solution - Seabrok retires as a player and gets hired as an assistant coach at $6.875M for 5 years. Bettman will never figure it out. - RickJ
I'm sure there's some rule against this, but looking at his contract, if he retires to coaching after his bonus on 7/1/20, he's only owed about $16M over the last 4 years. |

Let’s see, Joki traded, schmaltz traded,Kahun traded, when they see Kublick is a bust he’ll be gone too. But yet he’s penciled in as a replacement for Marion Hossa Or whatever.
At least Bowman doesn’t like any grass grow under his feet when it comes to some of these players and attachments.
And Brent Seabrook is not going anywhere other than to finish out his contract as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. All of these off-the-wall suggestions about long-term IR i,retire and become assistant coach are way out there. Stan went out and got two defenseman to complement these guys instead of sticking them with a bunch of club foots and experiments. Last defenseman to wear number seven at 34 years old still had another 7 to 8 good years of productivity. Because he was surrounded by other personel and put in a position to succeed. I think that is Bowman’s plan with Brent Seabrook.
And I got a funny feeling that Gus wil wear on Colliton and Mark Crawford with his boneheaded plays This season. Especially with a bunch of these other prospects pretty close. Still would not be surprised to see him gone some point. The minute his agent asks for five Mil a year plus. |

The NBA would sign off on it. Players make the rules in that league. |

I didn't realize it earlier until someone mentioned it a few days ago. It's not really evident on capfriendly unless you bore down in the Saad page.

Tyler a friend and I at were talking about this trade and why? Could the expansion draft have something to do with this trade? Would joki have to be exposed in the draft and nylander would be protected because of jis rfa status? |

Tha AHL counts as a pro league, so they would both need to be protected. |

I thought about this originally in my confused, instant reaction, however, I don't believe this had any effect on the trade. |

More from Powers:
Now for some other notes.
1. As for Boqvist, it’s sounding more likely he starts next season in the AHL rather than returning to the OHL. The London Knights recently announced two defensemen signings, and some believe it’s an indication Boqvist isn’t returning.
2. The Blackhawks and Brendan Perlini are supposed to continue negotiations next week, according to a source. The two sides haven’t talked much so far. - walleyeb1
Alex Vlasic happens to be Londons property if he plays in the O. |

Interesting tweet by Powers regarding the possibility of Mitchell changing his mind about signing with the Hawks instead of returning to college.
I wouldn't doubt that Mitchell's decision to go back to college next season was part of the calculus in Stan's decision to trade Joki. He had to consider that Mitchell saw the log jam at RD and may have started thinking about playing two more years in college and reaching free agency. From Mitchell's perspective - if he probably wasn't going to make his way onto the Hawks roster in the next couple years - he may as well stay in college and get to pick a team that could offer him a better opportunity.
Stan would have had to see that possibility and if he, Kelly and the team's talent evaluators assessed Mitchell and Joki to be fairly even in terms of projected ceiling - then why not trade Joki and get something for him and at the same time show Mitchell they are clearing a path for him. In other words - this way they end up with Mitchell and Nylander rather than only Joki because they would lose Mitchell if Joki were still on the team. |

Got me thinking, are post 2013 CBA contracts subject to the same cap recapture penalty as pre 2013 CBA contracts? |

I would encourage everyone to go to Tanner’s latest blog and report (flag) the very first comment (the one by Tanner that summarizes the thread) because it’s quite possibly the most offensively stupid blog ever posted on HB...and that’s saying something. |

No. The recapture penalty only applies to contracts signed before the 2013 CBA. |

I think it reveals his lack of vision, remember when he thought Rundblad was one of the Hawks best defenseman |

Okay, so I'm going ahead with this stupid question. Besides the big (frank) no, I need to follow this. If Kane is such a horrible contract, why do they want him on their books? Ummm, also this thing called a salary cap, which they are right up against. I didn't read it all because I couldn't. |
