I'm happy with the AAV, not so happy with the term. 2 years makes him a UFA when this deal expired. If they were going to give him longer than 1 year, they should have tried to lock him up long term for $3Mish. Otherwise they should have just let it go to arbitration and taken the 1 year deal at whatever the arbiter awarded. After Labanc's deal, it wasn't going to be for very much.

Locking him up for longer and more money is a risk. We simply dont know if he is even going to get better. This is a good deal. Esp when thinking of younger kids in 2 years taking his job potentially.

I would argue that an extra $500k for a long-term player isn't risky. 4 years from now, $3M will be the new $2M.

The Kings aren't exactly swimming in quality LW prospects. Outside of Kaliyev and Kupari (assuming they move him to wing), there's no one in the system that projects to jump Iafallo on the depth chart. Even if he doesn't improve further, I'd be quite happy with Iafallo on the third line with his current skill-set at $3M for the foreseeable future.

The best deal they’ve made this year . 2 years to discover if he can beak-out; if not, no harm, no foul. We let him test free agency. I like his touch, he just needs to put it all together.

I called his post game show about 10-15 years ago to answer a trivia question. I got on, but I hung-up immediately because I was so nervous. I was in my 30's at the time. My wife still clowns me about it.

If they had given him more than two years, they would've either had to protect him in the expansion draft or risked Seattle taking him, and he probably would've been an attractive option for them. Now, LA doesn't need to protect him, yet won't necessarily lose him because there'll still be the chance of re-signing him as a UFA. That makes two years the perfect length, IMO.

If Seattle really wants Iafallo, they can still take him during the expansion draft, even if he's a pending UFA (prior to the week-long UFA negotiation window). That would count as their draft selection from LA, and Seattle would gain exclusive rights to negotiate an extension with him prior to his being able to discuss a new contract with other teams (including the Kings).

If the Kings really want to guarantee exclusive rights to extend him past 2021, they'll have to extend him prior to the expansion draft, in which case they'll have to waste a protection slot on him anyway.

I have that 89-90 VHS tape sitting on my shelf. I break it out and give it a view every once in a while just to watch Krushelnyski (with 2 guys draped over his back) chip that shot over Vernons outstretched glove for the game winner. Definitely one of the top 10 Kings goals ever.

Glad we got him signed. I know that many will disagree but I like him better than Kempe. I think he has a more complete game and as he gets more experienced, he'll really become a strong player in this core. Kempe has flashes of greatness but just can't stay consistent. I would like to see Kings extend him for another 2-3 seasons max before giving him a real large raise.

On a side note, anyone planning to go to the pre-season game in SLC? Anyone go last year? I'm debating going and wanted to get some thoughts.

If the rules are like the Vegas expansion, they won't even have to. Vegas was given a 48-hour window before the draft to sign any upcoming RFAs or UFAs that were left unprotected. That way, they wouldn't end up picking one that they couldn't immediately sign. Seattle will have a chance to sign Iafallo even without taking him. If he doesn't sign with them during that 48-hour window, it's highly unlikely that Seattle will take him in the expansion draft just so that they can have an extra week of exclusivity.
