There are always some bargains if you will wait out the market. I had some concerns with Dzingel outside Ottawa, but that's a great contract and Carolina should be a good fit. Sets him up to hit the market again at 29, or if it goes well get extended next summer.
- Tojo.

I really see Dzingel, Ferland, Hagelin, Tanev all in the same boat. They each bring slightly different pros/cons but relatively the same value players. All their AAVs ended up being pretty close. I don't know why people are shocked by this.

Who cares about the term in this case. There is a 2-3 year window. There's every indication Tanev will be a great bottom six or good middle six addition for the next year or two. That's all that matters. If that contract is a big issue in year 5 its not going to make a lick of difference.

I really hope JR doesn't make the major purchases in the family. Car salesmen must love him.

Gotta put Osgood in first.
- Feds91Stammer

And there's the problem. Was Osgood a great goalie, or just a good goalie and some great teams? Same for Mike Vernon and Corey Crawford.

Hell, when he retired, there were some people in Detroit who were saying Kris Draper should get into the HHOF.

I think Dzingel is the superior of the 4 you listed here...just coming off two back to back 20+ goal/40+ point season (26 goals last year) and plays that fast heavy style theyve been preaching they want.

The term doesnt matter that much to me either BUT if say he didnt fit in well this year/under-performed then its much easier to trade him with only one year left on contract as opposed to 5...and especially 5 with a NTC.

There is nothing heavy about Dzingel's game. He is a horrible support player. All of his underlying numbers are garbage. He is a GREAT shooter though. 15% at evens is absurd. That's why he is such a good fit with Carolina. They don't need another two way dynamo to help them go from 57% possession to 60%, they needed another shooter.

JR apparently doesn't know how to negotiate when it comes to purchasing players; he seems to always be in competition with himself.

I honestly didn't know until right now that Tanev has a NTC. I just can't get over how bad of a contract this is. It definitely won't be the albatross that JJ is since Tanev is actually a decent hockey player, but it's still a terrible contract. Can you imagine if JJ had a NTC? I'd be vomiting.

I don’t think that he doesn’t know how I think he legitimately has no interest. I think he gets fixated on a guy and decides he’s going to acquire them no matter what and that leads him to start off with a higher offer than he should because he thinks it’s fair. I don’t think he has the cutthroat gene.

So does this mean that Tanev now has to be protected in the Seattle draft as well? If so, holy crap, so the team has to protect JJ, Tanev, Guds (?), Horny...that's not good at all!

He's fast and hungry for the puck is what I meant. Didnt realize his underlying was garbo though.

Unless a goalie is a clear-cut elite goalie for the majority of his career (Belfour, Hasek, Roy, Brodeur), I'd have a hard time putting them in. Like I said, aside from Lundquist, I don't think I'd say any goalie the past 5 years is in that category. Price could be and so could Rask, but they'll need more hardware and Cup or 2.

Like in Kessels case the offense out weighs the defense for a net positive.

So the forward with the most hits on the Pens last year was Horny with 150...Tanev had 278 last year...

Go look at 5v5 hits per 60. A vast majority of the top 100 are guys you wouldn’t want in your lineup. Hits rarely create a change of possession.

I'd rather have someone who isn't a big hitter but can score goals, control the puck, and steal it then someone who is mediocre at the above 3... but can hit.

Yah, poor penalty differential, defensively weak, but he is a lethal shot. You take the good with the bad. Still a good contract.

I watched quite a few Jets games last year. Tanev is a tenacious as they get. He can create a lot of chaos for defenders.

Not the most skilled player obviously, but I agree with others saying that he brings something that last years roster was missing.
