He wouldn't go back to Calgary. They treated him like an after thought, while he was the glue that held that line together. Like kadri...most guys don't want to play in calgary...

He’s a great guy to have if he can stay healthy. A little concussion history with him.

Ok, what the (frank) does McPhee think he's going to get? If I was the GM that offered a 2nd and a prospect and that dumb short-sighted (frank)er turned me down I would immediately begin negotiating an offer sheet with Gusev's agent.

Up to 4.2 mill is only a 2nd rounder for compensation. What leverage does McPhee think he has to demand much more than that?

It’s getting pretty close to where McJesus doesn’t want to play in Edm.

The organization helped him get sober, and trading a player for another good player or players is part of the business. Would hardly call that an afterthought especially with the way that they spoke of him after he left.

Monahan and Gaudreau both had career years last season. Yeah they totally fell apart without that glue guy there. Great points all around though. A rope sounds like a grand idea for you you should really look into it.

Todd, there has to be something going on when more players than not do not want to play in Calgary? Any insight (knowing that you know what side your toast is buttered on), taxes, $CDN, lack of new stadium commitment, freezing winters or the pressure of the Canadian microscope effect.

Was that before or after he signed to play here for the next 9 years of his life? (His entire prime). Wonder what's holding up the Tkachuk signing... Didn't have to worry about that here with Drai and Con.

Who doesn't want to play in Calgary? They'll never attract the big-name free agents, but neither will 20 of the other teams. They've been able to resign everyone, and the only player who ever really wanted out was Baertschi and maybe Hamilton. The couldn't afford to offer Ferland what the Canucks could, so of course, he's going to go to the highest bidder. He had meetings with the Flames, so he had no problems returning to Calgary.

People are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. Kadri wanted to stay in Toronto and he tried to use a clause in his contract to make that happen.

Have people already forgotten the notable free agents we've picked up the last few years?

Quine & Czarnik (chose calgary despite interest from other teams)
Foo (targeted by basically the whole league)
Neal (Sure he got paid, but he came here to win a cup)
Cervanka (had a pile of interest from other teams)
Brouwer (bust, but still chose to come here)

Part of the pitch meeting for most of these guys would be the vacant RW slot with Johnny and Money. We'll always be at a disadvantage recruiting big name American and Russian FA's (lower taxes, less pressure, warm weather).

But as far as attracting free agents, this franchise has probably never looked more appealing to some free agents than they do now (having a good young d and forward core that's expected to challenge for a cup will do that to a team--e.g Chicago).

exactly, agree with the post above: also Lindholm and Hanifin both signed long(er) term good extensions (albeit as RFAs) and so did Monahan and Gaudreau, all could've signed for less term for sure. I bet Tkachuk signs for at least 5 years too, hopefully 6+!

You keep bringing up the Kadri thing despite KADRI HIMSELF saying he nixed the deal because he wanted to stay a Maple Leaf, not because he had anything against Calgary or the Flames.

And Ferland was the glue that held Gaudreau and Monahan together? Is that why they both had career years without him even on the team, let alone their line?

The Flames helped Ferland get sober and they helped him become the player he is. They didn't want to lose him in the first place. You can listen to Tre's interview after the trade and find that out. Ferland wasn't treated like an afterthought. Anything but. Trades are part of the business. Ferland knows that. If he was so against going back to Calgary he wouldn't have met with the Flames in the first place.

You should really do some research before trolling because you look like an idiot.

For 12.5 million dollars a year, even I'd live in that dumphole up North. Not sure McDavid is a good example bud.

Show us the quote where he said that. Instead of I'm here to win and be part of the solution...oh and signing an 8 year deal. When you draft class like mcdavid thats what u get. When you draft trash like tkachuk you get disappearing acts and spear jobs and ill-timed penalties...
