Zib should Center the best two players, Panarin and Kakko. End of story. The best teams in the league do this - Slimtj100
Eventually ya. But right now we have so many young guys on the team I don’t think it’s beneficial. |

I worked for AT&T/Lucent/Avaya for 16.5 years, and have been at my current job for almost 10 years and it still doesn't feel the same walking in to an established group of people. Doesn't have the same camaraderie that you get when starting a job with people your age when you're young. Not bad, just different. |

What if Strome is more than just a flash in the pan? I say we give him a chance to earn his pay - blueshirts_fan
Been saying that since the season ended. Since we traded Hayes, he seems to be the best 2C we have. |

I don’t get why we wouldn’t give him a chance at it.
Worst case scenario he sucks and we don’t qualify him next year.
Best case scenario he continues where he left off last year and we either decide to trade him for a nice return or keep him next year, (he’s a RFA at the end of the year).
If we get rid of him and Andersson/Chytil don’t take the next step, then what? Howden? Having him as the 2C takes the pressure off of the kids and let’s them continue to grow on the 3rd line. |

Staal should be the one bought out.
Staal = $2.9 mill savings
Smith to Hartford = just over $1 mill savings
Namestikov @ full value to Blue Jackets along with Dallas 3rd round pick in return for Columbus 5th round pick in 2020. This = $4mill savings
That clears almost $8 mill off our cap. Sure, we get hosed in deal with Blue Jackets, but its not TOO bad. Allows us to sign all our RFA's and be cap compliant for beginning of season. Shatty and Kreider get until trade deadline to build up their value. Above moves also clear 2 important roster spots for kids to come and play. - TommyGTrain
That's a good example Tommy, of a "sweetener" as I mentioned Wednesday on the prior blog, that it would require the Rangers to also include in any trade to part with either Namestnikov's full $4M left for one year, or just 50% of either's annual 2 years remaining contracts in Shatty's $6.65M or Smith's $4.35M. I also suggested there as a "sweetener" option, that they could include a mid level prospect as an alternative to a mid round draft pick, in order to finally part with either of those three players for cap relief.
However, despite the two teams past trade deal history, unless the Blue Jackets (specifically) receive an overwhelming offer, (like a higher level draft pick or prospect), I can't see Columbus being the trade partner for Namestnikov. That due to them likely being unwilling to aid the Rangers in creating that cap relief, after being the one of five bidding teams who landed Panarin, despite the Blue Jackets for one offering him greater annually, along with that extra 8th year allowed only them to remain in Columbus. |

Even if he were eligible to be bought out during the second buyout window, it would have made no sense to buy out Strome, who most definitely is their #2 qualified center as of now. With hockey experts labeling the Rangers as a contender to reach the postseason once the final piece in Panarin was signed, the one question up front is whether there is sufficient depth at center on their 3rd and 4th lines.
Weeks prior to ever expecting Panarin would land with the Rangers, I felt that rather than experiment with one too many kids as 3rd and 4th line centers, there was a need to acquire experienced center depth for their youth, such as in free agency in pursuing a Brian Boyle. However, the Rangers current cap troubles in preventing them from re-signing their own RFA's alone, has put that consideration on hold for now. But should sufficient cap relief arrive, and after extending their RFA's, it must be reconsidered, especially with the signing of Panarin having officially ended the rebuild of at least their pro roster. |

I don’t see who we’re going to get as a significant upgrade over Strome though as the 2C. He put up a 50 point season playing with Tavares, if we split up Panarin and Zib and paired Strome with Panarin, 50-55 points is out of the question? He was on pace for a 43 point season as a NYR and he got off to a terrible start. Adding 7-12 points playing with an elite winger isn’t out of the question, and if your 2C is giving you 50-55 points I think you’re doing just fine. |

Quinn has already said that Zib and Panarin will be paired together
so really any conversations about splitting them up are pointless

It makes perfect sense, but I really wanted to see KZB still together to start. If we do try Chytil as the 2C, it might help him a lot though to have Krieder on his wing. Not only does it give him a true weapon with experience, it's a big body just in case teams want to rough him up a little. [/img] |

If I would have know he would have signed for that little, he could have made sense as a 2C here. He obviously excelled in that role last year. |
