See, no need to hate on marner, hes barely involved.
Dont get caught up in all the media bs.

He'll sign by camp like ive been saying all along.
No rush.

Leafs should just pay up and retain their title of cash cow.
Would be astonishing if he sat out a year. Then to see another top point player leave for nothing like jvr.

JVR was their own rental. They kept him for their short playoff run.

Besides who'd give up 1st or 2nd and good prospect at the trade deadline.

I don't think he's overly involved at this point in time. End of July going into August I'd imagine the boys start to get in gear - and that's when the talks will start to heat up. He's staying with the buds.

Is there something wrong with that? Don't you remember being 21? If your cashing in 50+ million dollar contract guaranteed - why rush? Enjoy the break! And his absolute rocket of a girlfriend

While I don't see the need to hate on the guy.

I'm never gonna buy that PR thing about "I'm not involved in what my agent is doing".

They are most likely communicating every step of the way and can discuss adjustments anytime.

You're not very good at this.
Marners rights are owned by the leafs.
Oh and we let the point getting jvr leave to sign a player who scored 47 goals last year.
Psst, which was 3rd most in the league.

But good try

I also think he will sign before camp, but I highly doubt that he isn't involved. That sounds like his agent advised him to say that to avoid having to answer tough questions.

The reality is, when the season ended, he sat down with his agent and they went over all the possibilities. His agent gave him the comparables and told Mitch where he thinks he fits on the pay scale, then he shot for the moon to ensure Mitch gets what they think he is worth.

The wrench Kyle Dubas threw into the plan was when he did all of his deals and left enough for what the Leafs feel Marner is worth, so at this point it's probably a stalemate with Kyle saying, "We have 9.5 for Mitch" and Ferris saying "Mitch is worth 11 all day long." It will probably continue right up to camp when Mitch asks his agent to get a deal done. The Leafs probably cave and give Mitch 10 to get this done, and play the season with less players in the press box.

What’s the point in being a Leafs fan if you’re not going to overreact to everything?

I remember a quote from Matthews, he basically said he wasnt that involved

dug up the quote

How involved were you in this process and was any of it a distraction?

Matthews: No, it wasn’t a distraction. I would talk with my agents and my dad, who was also involved, every once in a while. I kind of left that to them. I had full faith and trust in Judd Moldaver and Jeff Jackson and the Wasserman-Orr team to let them do what they do. I let them speak with Kyle and management. When they came to me and said, “I think we have a deal done to move forward,” I was obviously happy with it. Here we are today.

Again. I'm not buying it.

Every player says the same thing, and it's mostly to take the heat off of them during negociations. It's pretty convenient for them and I understand why they do it.

I'm not saying they are sitting at the table. But they receive information on how things are progressing and when things don't go as planned, they discuss and adjust their views if needed.

At least that's what I think.

It's never a good sign when a player keeps saying "my agent."
