On another note...the conditions of the conditional pick regarding the Lucic/Neal trade is interesting...I hadn't read about it before.

Oh, and I wish Tyson's parents named him Barry, instead.

Neal is going to have a huge comeback year. This is a great trade by Edmonton.
Lucic is finished, Neal is not imo.

No new information
No discussion of how the Trouba contract might impact the asking price

I can't even talk about contracts and the cap anymore. I don't even care.

I want the season to start so we can tweak out about lineup combos and the refs again.

Your spandex biking shorts are cutting off blood flow to your brain

Marner is a top 20 forward
Jones is a top 5 dman

Seth Jones is the only DMan I would trade Marner 1 on 1 for.
Seth Jones is better than Doughty, Karlsson, Hedman you name it.

It's an interesting point. I think Marner is closer to a top 5 forward after this season, after putting up 100 points.

The reality is despite the efforts of the media to claim Marner wants to sign any offersheet he would never go to the wastelands that is Columbus. Bye Bye Intact and Apple commercials.

We can debate the wisdom of signing Tavares, or the Matthews contract or giving up a first to get away from the Marleau final year...

It find it interesting that the Leafs now have almost no horrible contracts. There *may* be slight overpayments but they are for young payers.

The only contract you could seriously question is Ceci. I still think that is a head-scratcher. Why not let him go to arbitration, let him walk away, sign Marner, and pick up a Dman off the scrap heap. At the very least sign him to bonus heavy contract to make a trade somewhat easier.

The only answer is that the Leafs appear to think Ceci offers real value at 4.5. I have no idea what they are basing that on. By anything I have seen he is no better than the September dumpster dive-ees.

So Dubas gets full marks for fixing an enormous problem. It looks like he was just one big question mark away from pretty much a perfect off-season

so far.

Matthews is better than Marner. It's not all about total points. I prefer the big, elite centre who scores more than anyone in the NHL in he toughest situation(5 on 5)

You are 100% correct. Try finding another team without one.

When people name "Auston Matthews" and "William Nylander" as your "Bad contracts" you are doing something right.

Look at any other "Contender". Most have terrible contracts with non core players.

Leafs being in "Cap Hell" argument is laughable.

Our ex GM just keeps littering his lineup with expensive late 20's supporting guys.

I would not trade Marner 1 up for Jones, but it is pretty f'ing close. Columbus probably feels the opposite and I can respect that.

Unless the Marner contract just cannot be worked out. In that case, I would do it and even add a bit if I had to.

I agree. That's just how valuable Matthews is, because Marner is amazing. Matthews ability to just take the puck and shoot it into the net sets him apart.
