Don't see Sheahan getting inked. Would rather see another move for a veteran defenseman. And we know it will take a trade to make that happen. |

How much do you think Sheahan is worth? $1M-1.5M? |

Hey Barnaby,
I think $1 - $2 M is fair.
Really curious what happens in the Weegar situation, though. |

Hopefully it’s on the to-do list. He’s better than so many other 4C options out there and before Brassard came to Pittsburgh he really found himself as a 3C that spring. I don’t recall exactly but he was rolling with like 10 points in his prior 17 games before Brass came |

It'd be nice to hear today that they sign Weegar before his arbitration hearing tomorrow. They're getting close to the cap, maybe after Weegar's deal is resolved they will offer Sheahan deal for one year. Does Acciari play center? I see many penciling him in at 4C, but I've heard some B's fans say he better when playing on the wing. If Acciari is 4C, maybe Sheahan isn't made an offer. Still it seems FL could use another experienced center on the NHL roster, Borgstrom is expected to be 3C, behind him there's only Malgin (also unsigned rfa). They traded Bjugstad and McCann last year, unless I'm forgetting someone, the rest are all wingers. |

Hopefully they are waiting on a Weager decision to trade him |

Borgstrom isn going to be interesting to see how he continues to develop...there’s flashes there for sure, whereas a guy like Sheahan brings you a steadier/more consistent game - but the lack of offensive talent that a Borgy’s potential is. Not saying Sheahan takes Borgy’s spot or the other way around, just looking st the two different playing styles.
Would you rather have Malgin over Sheahan, Rats?
I’m not sure on Acciari. I’m eager to see him play for this team,l though |

Not a Weegar guy, Harv? I like his game and he’d be defensive depth.
Where would you move him and for who? |

I like Malgin, but he is not really a "fourth line" type of player. Unless FL decides to try to get more scoring from line 4, Sheahan would probably be better in that role. I thought Malgin was gonna step up last year after an impressive end to the previous season. He never did, though. He has some flashes of good play, hopefully he can carve out a spot on borgstroms wing, or he may be traded away to avoid losing him on waivers. |

I saw an article last week where Malgin said he was determined to show people his worth coming into this season.
It’ll be interesting to see how some of these sotuations (Malgin, Weegar, Sheahan, etc.) shake out before the season starts. |

It should be mentioned that he was centering Phil when he did that.
Sheahan strikes me as the essence of “replacement level,” certainly the Cats have someone in the AHL who can do an equivalent job. |

So, you're telling us that he can make a pass.
I really wouldn't be overly concerned with needing his scoring totals to be high....If he can contribute on PK and defensive draws and take some of that off of Barkov. And If he's responsible with the puck, and his line his high energy that, if not chipping in a goal, ends most of their shifts by setting up an offensive zone face off (for Barky's line), that would be a helpful player to have. Idk if Sheahan is that player or not, It was a short sample size w/FL after trade deadline, but he could be well worth signing for one year. |

I like Sheahan's game and I think he'll find his way back to the Panthers. I suspect both sides are holding on for a while to see how the whole free agent market shakes out. I don't think the Panthers will overpay, but sign him at a fair price that keeps him in South Florida; it likely means a pay cut from where he was and that can be tough for a player to swallow.
I think that role of a confident, experienced 4C who can win face offs and play PK will be critical going into the playoffs. If (unlikely, I hope) he is signed to only a 1-year deal and the Panthers don't look playoff bound, he should have value at the trade deadline assuming decent play this year. |

Hammer is the stay-at-home, savvy veteran a lot of us have talked about wanting.
Wonder what AZ would be looking for in return. |

I know he is a right wing but I would still rather sign Brouwer than Sheahan. |

Mcginn, Brouwer, or Sheahan.
It's nice that we're debating which one of the three to keep, instead having room for all three, and hoping one of them can somehow play second line minutes. |

Couldn’t agree more, definitely something I can get use to.
Now that we’re on this topic I was thinking of what our lines could look like. Here is what I came up with.
dadonov-barkov-huberdeau
Hoffman-trocheck-tippet
Connolly-borgstrom-vatrano
Brouwer-acciari-sceviour
Yandle-ekblad
Stralman-matheson
Pysk-weeger

Since I like our offense, I wouldn't attempt to deal any of it. And I think there is a chance we could resign Hoffman after the year, so he stays in my book.
I don't think a team that has BOTH Yandle and Ekblad on the top two lines CAN be a top defense, so I roll the dice by trying to deal Ekblad (HARD I know $$$) and gift wrap him with a good prospect to try and gain an upper level defensman. This team is too close to try and make it to the next level with essentially the same defense and thinking that 72 is going to carry it alone. Ekblad doesn't impress me, he might impress someone else especially with the prospect we dangle. Yandle isn't going anywhere so in my book Ekblad has to.
