It's too bad Pulju is too dumb to realize if he puts in the effort he has a chance to play in the top six. - Reveen.
Yup
Said it last year, and it’s no less True now.
Him breaking out could literally be THE tipping point for a successful season.
Assuming we can’t acquire a quality top 6 winger in his prime years for all the reasons we’ve heard, we need and want puju to work out.
Put in the work and make it happen and force whatever coach to give you that spot. And then enjoy being popular amongst the fans, media and the dressing room when you’re killing it |

A smart person would understand the situation and just how wide open the wing slots are with the Oilers....JP could easily come in and take a spot with a strong performance....this is what a smart person does but JP and his agent have shown to be anything but smart in this situation....I for one would love JP to come back and prove everyone wrong

Flames fans last year “Lucic is such garbage what a stupid contract lol”
Flames fans now “We won the trade lol Lucic is going to bounce back we would rather have him then Neal”
Alright then...... - RatedR80
Pretty sure 95% say they both suck...Lucic is a better 4th liner than Neal though
Both players are likely better fits on their new teams
Paying Neal 6.35M isn't some big win to be jumping up and down about IMO. |

I don’t get how Lucic became better then Neal but we will find out this upcoming season.....also we aren’t paying Neal 6.35 million we just retain part of Lucics salary....there is a difference.....I’m jumping up and down because I don’t have to watch Lucic play for us anymore

Let's look at it this way....
1) Teams swapped bad contracts. Edmonton gets a potential top six winger which we needed and Calgary gets truculence (are you sure Brian Burke isn't still working for the Flames ?) which they wanted.
Wash both teams get what they want
2) We no longer have to protect Lucic in the expansion draft.
Big win for the Oilers
3) If Neal fails and we need to buy him out next summer we are looking at 1.9 million over six years. If we had to do the same with Lucic we would have been looking at 4.8, 3.5, 4.8, 430k, 430k, 430k.
Another win for the Oilers
4) Just wait till you see how Lucic can drag an entire line down into the dumps.
Another win for the Oilers

I think Neal will find his scoring touch. He was absolutely snake bitten last year. As far as salary and point production go, Edmonton will win this trade hands down.
But Calgary needs what Lucic brings in Truculence. If JG and Monahan feel like they have more room, and Tkachuk can become even more of a Douchebag then this trade does Calgary well.

The buyout was actually 5.6, 4.2, 5.6, 625k x 3 so even better for us. |

The buyout metrics alone justify the trade from the Oilers perspective. |

The shooting % suggests as much....I guess if everything were to even out then Chiasson will come back down to earth and Neal should be a bit more productive....Lucic can bring the pain so to speak but hopefully for you guys he will actually be motivated to do so....if not then I don’t know what use he can be.....yes I’m aware he was 7th in hits but doesn’t that suggest that his line never has the puck? 🤔

Excited to see how the hiring of Wiseman plays out for the team. I'm glad to see Tippett going outside the carousel for an assistant hire and it's even better he's coming from a UofM program that's churned out a good number of NHLers during his tenure. Most interesting to me is the type of players the program has produced have pretty consistently end up on my "target lists". Pateryn, Merrill, Hyman, Glendening, Trouba, Di Guissepe, Copp, Nieves, Compher, Werenski, Larkin, Motte, Connor, Hughes and prospects like Norris, Lockwood and Marody.
Not clear on how much of an impact he had on all these guys, but he's lauded as being good with young players and that list of NHLers seems to support such a claim. |

I'm on the wait-and-see side for this deal. The retained salary is the only hard part to stomach, but is more than offset by getting rid of the MNC and the more palatable buyout option. Still, from Calgary's perspective, they get Lucic for 500k less than they had Neal at, he is much better suited to the bottom 6 than Neal is, and Lucic fills Hathaways spot so they don't need to replace that type of player. Makes a lot of sense for the Calgary side as well. I just hope Neal can put up some points with RNH, and isn't a problem in the room.
I know I am not in the majority, but I didn't mind watching the Lucic-Cave-Currie line. Lucic wasn't the complete tire fire that he was the whole prior year, if he was a 2 mil contract, I'd have no issue with him. Russel on the other hand, I just don't want to watch him anymore. |

It appears he is very good with young players and he will be most helpful on the “skills” aspect of things for whatever that’s worth

I guess my question is if Hathaway's toughness from the 4th line wasn't enough in the playoffs then will Lucic's toughness from the 4th line be that different? The point of adding "toughness" is to add functional toughness at various points throughout the lineup. Just tossing tough players on the 4th line and saying it's enough doesn't change much for the top-6.
We've got the overall toughness we need from Nurse, Kassian, Khaira and Larsson- though his toughness is more during play- but if neither of the forwards are able to hold their own up the lineup (likely), I think you'll see the pursuit of a Gallagher-lite begin. A tone setter that drives the scoring areas for the big-3. Would've been nice to add Hartman or Brodzinski if only to test them in that type of role. |
