The show case is good for these boys. If gives them another chance to compete against some same age high end skill. A kid like Bobby Brink can get a chance to show his talent level when he hasn’t had a lot of exposer to this level much.

This by no means makes or breaks a kid but just gives the athletes and coaches another chance to asses strengths and needs.

Excited to see what Bee and York can bring.

Hoping Ginning continues to get better at his role.

I wonder if guys like Ginning and Zamula will get a shot. We already have a logjam with 8 NHL defensemen (I know Braun will be gone in a year and Niskanen in 2), and that we may lose one to expansion (unless we can use picks/assets to deflect the pick). But we've also got York coming, and they'll probably want one of the "grizzled vet" types, so spots on the blueline may be something that isn't available.

Of course, their best chance is to just play so well that the organization has no option other than to play them at the NHL. It would be a good problem to have, they just don't have the same luster that the current homegrown guys + York have.

Not sure why everyone assumes the 2 new D will be gone after their contract is up; they very well could be resigned.

For anyone who wasn't around at the time. This is the Tertyshny story from Les Bowen (who covered hockey here for years before being moved off that beat). It still makes me cry. I remember he was one of those young players who impressed by how quickly he picked up the difference in the NHL game and how much he improved game to game.

Yeah.
It sucked.
Between him and Pelle............damn.
I wonder if any other team suffered these types of setbacks. Since I follow only one team (Go ahead and guess.) for the last 39 years, I am ignorant of many of the horrors that afflict other franchises.

Log jam is right. But not in a bad way.

I don’t know if those two have the NHL upside yet but they still have a lot of growing to do. It would still be difficult to crack this future blue line.

With that side, the Flyers will most likely need to move out an expensive contract here or there to stay under the cap. They need those ELCs to stay in compliance with the cap. It is the nature. Look at the Leafs. All that good talent can’t be held on one team. Gotta keep bringing in the kids. Hexy saw that. Hence the York pick.

Gin and Zum are needed to progress and come in to compete for spots. It’s the nature of the cap era.

I was only 2 when Pelle died, so Tertyshny was the first one where I saw that athletes are human just like the rest of us. I didn't know much about him (or the fact that he was an expecting father), but he showed a lot of promise as a rookie and I was excited to see him on the blueline for years to come.

Other young players that come to mind are Luc Bourdon and Alexei Cherapanov, although Cherapanov died due to an on-ice incident.

Anyone have any interest in Tobias Reider? Think he could be a sleeper add. Could be a guy we could sign cheap and due for a bounce back. He is only 26 years old. Worst case Scenario is that we got someone to blame if we miss the playoffs

How old does a defensemen need to be, how many years in the league before he is considered a vet by the people in here?

For me it’s not age, it’s experience. Guys like Provy, Ghost and even Hagg have enough NHL experience or combined AHL/NHL experience to be vets in my book. That doesn’t mean that they don’t each have room to grow, but rather that the mistakes they make from here on in should not be attributed to inexperience.

Calling Hagg a vet is a bit of a stretch imo. I agree with the inexperience excuse but i still think there's a gap between that and a veteran. Ghost this upcoming season should be considered a vet.

Hagg has played around 350 games between the AHL and NHL, sounds like a vet to me. Doesn’t mean he’s any good, but he’s still a vet.

For some reason I have in my head that 3 NHL seasons sounds about right to be considered a vet.

AHL and NHL are two totally different leagues, you can't just combine them.

A Vet is described as: a person who has had long experience in a particular field

I'd say it is more about how many years\seasons a player has been in the NHL rather than age. To me a Vet is a guy who has been in the league at least 10 years.

Tim Thomas is a perfect example. He broke into the league in his 30s yet he had no NHL experience so he is not considered at Veteran goalie

Hagg is an experienced player because of his time playing professional hockey but I wouldn't call him a vet, Niskanen, Braun, and Hagg?? Wouldn't put him in the same sentence as those two.

I think it’s debatable. If a player starts his career early, at the age of 18, should he be considered a bet by 23, 24? What about players who start at age 20 or 21, I give them late 20’s.

I think depending on this season, Ivan Provorov May deserve an “A”.
