Trouba also had arbitration rights and was 1 year away from UFA status. That's leverage that none of Werenski/McAvoy/Provorov have. It's not exactly apples to oranges, but it's not apples to apples, either.

I'm not surprised if the hold out has to do with the term , the Weresnki camp probably wants a contract that will take him to UFA.

I do not expect any of the big 3 D man left to be as much as the Trouba contract, JT had alot of leverage, he was one year away from UFA status, The others do not have that and baring a hold out or leaving for the KHL (Not likely) None have a serious threat to offer, All 3 are great young d-men but should not yet be handed that kind of 8M a year + unless they are giving up years of UFA status, I expect all 3 in the 6.5-7 range.

Zach is a better D than Trouba, yet I agree with you. He will probably get less. That Trouba contract was scary considering he had a career high 32 points in his first 5 seasons, up until his contract year. I can see him being yet another regrettable D signing such as Shatts, Smith, Staal have all disappointed them. For 8M, you better be the toughest shut down D in the league, or, notch 50+ points per season. You're D core looks fantastic. I think you can land Zach in a 7x7 deal.
