Eklund: This will be remembered as a one of the best signings of the summer...
- Eklund

A reasonable term of a 30pt player is going down as the best signing of the season?

Alright folks, wrap it up, you heard the man, nothing more to see until October...Ek, hit the lights on your way out!

Look, I like Sissons, but you just locked up a 30 point guy until he's 33 years old.

It's moves like this that bite teams because they lack flexibility.

Also, best at what? Continuously putting a "good but not great" team on the ice? Congratulations on making it beyond the 2nd round of the playoffs once in 20 years.

What's the point? I obviously disagree and politely said "you're ignorant" (without, you know, actually saying it)

But... you’re the one with no rebuttal. I feel like that makes you the ignorant one.

Ek loves a move the Preds made shocking. They could trade for every bad contract in the league and he would still say it's a great move.

Poile did the same thing a few years ago with Jarnkrok...$2M x 6 years. Guy consistently puts up 25-35 points in a bottom 6 role. Steal of a deal.

Cue Tanner telling us that Chayka is doing the same thing in Arizona...except he's not really getting a discount. Schmaltz at $5.85M x 7 - haha. Dvorak at $4.45M x 6 - for a career high of 37 points, 2 more than Jarnkrok. Chychrun at $4.6M x 6 - for a guy who looked better in the pressbox than on the ice.

I am just thankful that Eklund saved the Predators.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I like Sissons alright too, but you just don't sign a depth player to that long of a term. If he regresses or completely falls of a cliff in a couple of years then you're still stuck with him for half a decade. Colton's had problems with consistency like a lot of players on this team. Jarnkrok has a similar contract, and he's decent, but right now is a guy just kind of there not really offering all that much.

While i said 2.0 for 5 years in one of Paul's blogs, this is a good signing.
6, 10, 27 and 30 points in 4 years at 25 years of age . If he went to arbitration he would have possibly received more.
With prices going through the roof with more skilled players, you need a number of guy's at 2.8 for cap purpose numbers. Great signing !!

How would Carolina have done with an expansion team instead a relocated franchise that existed for 25 years? I'm gonna guess they would have struggled a bit more and would have seen results similar to the Thrashers or Predators.

No way man. This is FANtastic for the Leafs!!!!

Scissions and his 15 goals inked for 3 million over 7 years

Marner had less than double that, at 26 goals.

Dummas ready to negotiate now, maybe even relent to giving Marner double or slightly more than double, just to end this nonsense.

Marner at 6-7 million over 7 years. The bar has been set. Go get it done Dummas!!!!

Probably better without having to drag around all of the baggage of one of the worst franchises in professional sports.

Like, they sucked for a very very long time and still have 4 trips to the third round in the last 20 years.

Let's not pretend like Hartford to Carolina was the same as Quebec to Colorado. Hartfords roster was garbage.

In today's NHL an expansion team can go to the finals their first season...

Why the hell would you sign a depth player to a 7 year deal??

Hartford had been a garbage team for about 90% of it's existence. And then the team moved to Raleigh before the (frank)ing arena was even built, so they had to play in a city 80 miles away from what was supposed to be their home, in a city of 300k.

Oh I know. My older Bro (by 8 years) was a diehard Whalers fan. Broke his heart when they moved. He didn't keep the love for the Canes and stopped following hockey near as much.

Always a Hawk fan...but, did really like the Francis/Dineen Whalers of the mid-80's to early 90's.
Anti-Hab fan, so found myself cheering the Whalers quite a bit. Sweet jersey's too!!

Haha yeah I always liked their logo but was definitely more partial to their jerseys with the blue, green and silver over the all green ones haha.

Hat trick in NHL debut on Bob Cole Day. Pretty impressive made Red Light Freddie look like swiss cheese! Kid acts like he's been there before. You love to see it.

How is this a good move? He’s near a replacement level player. His shooting percentage last year says that 15 goals was an OVER achievement for him.

A long term large cap hit for production that should never cost more than ~$1M.

Honestly, Carolina would have been better served just having an expansion draft roster aside from Kapanen, Primeau, and Trevor Kidd...Gary Roberts can stay, too.

But yes, no expansion team ever won a Cup and/or went to the Finals in its first 10 years in the league like the Panthers, Islanders, Oilers, Flyers, and Sabres.
