Carol Schram: Can the Canucks beat their Vegas projection and sneak into the playoffs? Vegas oddsmakers are projecting and improvement for the Vancouver Canucks next season, but leave them short of a playoff spot. Is there enough upside to hope for a better result?

If they trade for Seabrook, no doubt!

Thanks Carol,

Vancouver - 88.5 seem's realistic.

Thanks Carol.

I don't know how I feel about the standings and points. To me the points seem reasonable at 88.5 but 5th place in the division doesn't seem right.

Hard to gauge the impact of Pavelski leaving SJ

Is Cgy's goaltending and defence going to be as good as last season.

Kessel enough offence for Arizona to improve

Is VGK an injury or two away from a bad season. Malcom Subban is there back up.

How close are we to a bad season with a couple if injuries?

Pavelski had 38 goals for SJ last year. That will be nearly impossible to replace. Thornton is another year older and slower and once Karlsson is injured again, they're going to struggle. Goaltending was also a problem for them last year and they didn't make any changes there.

Thanks Carol,

Nucks sneak in with 3rd Pacific berth.

they scored just one more goal than they did in 2017-18, when they finished 26th.

I think they've upgrade enough to make the playoffs if they continue to get quality goaltending and they don't lose any of their top forwards for an extended period of time.

I agree, I like the moves Benning has made to improve the wings and defense, just need to pray to the hockey gods for no injuries.

I'm not sure Calgary and San Jose will be as dominant as last year, so like Belcher I will predict a 3rd place finish.

PS. Love to see Toronto implode.

i think 88.5 is a very reasonable point projection for the Nucks, playoffs? I dont really know it that's in the cards. It all depends on the Pacific. The division was awful last year and is still likely the worst of the 4, so it wouldnt be a shock if it stayed the same or even dropped a tad more slightly.

Personally i would like to see VAN in the dance, but any sort of improvement within the Pacific would make it hard since i feel the Central is a lock for both WCs.

Here's to hoping, best of luck this upcoming season Nucks Nation!

I'll also predict a 3rd place finish being Vegas and Calgary.

Sharks are old and the rest of the division is not a threat.

The Sharks got awful goaltending, so if that improves they'll be right in the mix.

Sharks still have Couture, Kane, Meier, Hertl, Karlsson, Burns. They are going to score. Whether the puck stays out of the net is different.

In my mind Calgary, San Jose, and Winnipeg are the western teams with the biggest falling potential from last year. Still doubt the Canucks get a chance at the WC but 3rd in the division is possible if chips fall the right way.

I also like the fact the new additions all came from winning team / environment. Hoping it changes and elevates other guys too.

JTM, Myers, Ferglund all made playoffs and were on exciting fun teams. That attitude will hopefully spread.

Jones isn't a good starter and their defense is in shambles. Burns and Karlsson are more interested in playing in the other end, Vlasic has declined, they traded Braun. Dillon is slow.

And who's their leader? They lost Pavelski and Thornton shamefully was stripped of his "C" before then.
