Tyler Cameron: Summer Thoughts
We've talked about the new additions. We've discussed how that's affected team competition. We've even looked at what the roster looks like as of July 2019.

Let's keep it rolling in the dog days of summer and dive into a few more of my thoughts.

Ok -- from a personal perspective only; I have reconciled myself to losing the entire Russian contingent from several seasons ago. Just watching the circus that played out there, I think I got a pretty good lesson in what Bowman was really doing several seasons ago ... trading the circus in favour of actual hockey.

I can't say that he was wrong to do that -it was some really good foresight. I'm really excited to get back to following some meaningful hockey again ... and interested in seeing how things play out.

I have no line combinations, don't care much about Seabrook aside he's on the team ---

I do sort of wonder if the 9 games that they can use Dach without burning a year of his entry contract is somehow connected with Perlini's signing or not signing. Seriously it doesn't matter one way or another -but I have seen worse guys wearing the Indian-head ...

Food for thought

Moving Perlini for what?

Adding a pugilist. Even if stashed at Rockford. Not because i am in favor of this actually happening. Just because the team doesn't really have a fighter. Shaw and Seabrook are not a good match for the biggest ruffians around the league.

I know I’m sounding like a broken record here, but my thought is that if Dach isn’t the answer at 3C, then there’s still a gaping hole in the roster. Got a bunch of guys who CAN play there, but all are better suited elsewhere.

We got better on D, and deeper in the bottom 6, but lost a proven 3C. That’s two steps forward, one back by my count. Hope the kid can bring it...soon.

I didn't predict it but I thought the one player they should trade for was for shaw. But I didn't think the habs would him.

I was stoked when I heard about the trade. They have needed guy like shaw since he left and not come close to replacing him. So go get the original . He was their best player during the 7 game series with the blues.

even Q commented about shaw before he trade that he was

https://www.secondcityhoc...placeable-2016-salary-cap

he can play up and down the line-up, kill pens, net presence, great team high energy guy...

he helps with slotting other guys...

yes injury problems and his style of play leads to a short career...see marcus kruger...

this team after a full camp and the emergence of a few other positive surprises will compete for top 3 division spot...

OK, I'll take the bait.

I just don't think they would've traded AA if they didn't think Dach was sticking with the big club.

They didn't get better with the AA trade, and didn't really save that much cap space this year either.

At the time of that trade, the first thought that crossed my mind was that Dach is being given the 3C role, and they got Smith to protect him a bit first half of the season.

No bait, was mostly joking in the last thread, but apparently I lost on the over.

I don't think you're wrong. I don't think they are giving him the spot necessarily but am betting unless he looks completely lost out there in camp he likely starts the season there or possibly as a wing on the 3rd line with Smith or Shaw centering (or at wing if Zach's center).

I've seen Dach between Saad and Shaw proposed here and if the kid can show he deserves to stick, I think that has some potential to be a really good 3rd line.

People can female dog and moan about Bowman, but hiring Kunitz was a classy move. Only players Dollar Bill kept around were those that he got to be a coach on the cheap.

Stan made some high risk/reward moves. DeHaan, Maatta, Shaw, Lehner have all had medical or other issues. If they are healthy and productive it could definitely be a playoff team and DeHaan, Maatta, and Shaw have 3 years left on very reasonable contracts. If they miss a lot of time and are unproductive Stan will have to answer for that, and Shaw, Maatta, and DeHaan have 3 years left on their very expensive contracts.

The Lehner/Crow situation will also be interesting. If they both are healthy and play at an elite level dividing time this year, then what to do next year should be interesting. People say that Lehner is a given and Crow is gone next year. If Crow stays healthy and plays 45+ games at an elite level and leads them in a successful playoff run I am not so sure he is gone.

Have a friend that offered me a seat on a trip was Hawks in Prague, and bears that weekend in London.

Was like $2200. I would of done it in a heartbeat, but the divorce would be much more expensive than that.

So far bowman has had a really good offseason and addressed what the hawks were lacking from last year's team. If hawks can get 65 70 games out of shaw dehann and Matta then this is a playoff team if not be very hard to make the playoffs. I would like to see dach go back to juniors get more confidence and get stronger. Imo hawks have one more move what that is or for whom don't know but needs to be for a 3rd line center. Thoughts and opinions welcome. Who could the hawks trade for a 3rd line center?

You don't need a fighter. It's a waste of a roster spot. You want someone bigger who is tough to play against, fine, but the concept of a fighter in today's NHL is just not a thing anymore. The notion that an "enforcer" will keep the piece and somehow police guys from taking liberties with your stars has been proven wrong over and over again.

I think Dach makes the team but Nylander does not unless Kubalik doesn't. I don't think Nylander plays on the 4th line or as the 13th forward. There doesn't seem to be much room for him in the top 9 either.

To me it's all a process. Watching Bowman infuse the club with talent in a couple of years, has been really impressive. I didn't like the Joki or AA trade, but they made them and that's that.

I said 3 years, 2 years ago and this will be year 3 window for Bowman. Final Development year, how lucky to get the 3rd pick in the draft, Boqvist and Mitchell waiting in the wings, plus others.

Bowman is building the same way Pace did with the Bears, patience and trying not to force anything.

I get what Ogi is saying but let's see if it's one step back once the season starts.

I just kept hearing other coaches scouting report vs Dach and they all said, the best chance of beating his team was to make sure you were always aware of where he was on the ice. The way i understand it, his team wasn't all that talented either.

Boqvist, just so curious to see him on the ice with real men, so much talent

Stronger maybe, but confidence does not seem to be lacking in young Dach.

My bet is the 9 game audition goes well and he contributes all season.

Nylander – Toews – Kubalik (veteran leader & two newbies)
ADB – Strome – Kane (all offense all the time)
Saad – Dach – Shaw (one newby and two vets)
Caggiula – Kampf – Smith (energy & grit all 200’)
Carpenter/Perlini/Sikura

I still think Bowman has one move left.

Yeah I just stuck him in there for now, I’m playing GM and holding out on Perlini, sign for $1m for one year or don’t play. It’s up to him. I’m also not 100% on Dach making the team. The pre-season and nine games will make that determination.
