I am by no means an avs expert but is he worth that much? Seems like a million or 2 overpaid. I suppose he projects to better than his current totals.

wow..... do we have a lockout coming to protect the owners from themselves?

I can't fault a guy for wanting to get paid, but why the term with what I'd say is a drastic over payment.... this deal makes the Trouba deal look like a steal.

Bill Meltzer brings up a good point about it on another thread, tho

“The Girard deal is more team-friendly than player friendly in the long term (as long as he keeps developing as hoped). It doesn't kick in until 2020-21, which means he is giving up three years of UFA eligibility on the back end.”

He's expected to be a high caliber dman. I think the term will make it a brilliant signing...unless he falls off the face of the earth of course...

This will turn out to be even better than the Josi signing.

If you watched the Avs in March and watched them vs Calgary and San Jose in the playoffs, you know this was a steal for the Avs long-term.

Tanner also praised the deals for Schmaltz, Dvorak, and Chychrun. As well as the Domi for Galchenyuk trade. So his hockey knowledge is pretty low. But he's a great role model.

Seems like a great deal in my eyes. Klingberg type of deal.

As it stands he might be "1m" "over paid" for the next season or so all things considered. After that he becomes a fair contract, moving into a bargain deal. I think hes a solid top 4 LH puck moving D man who is still 2 years away from entering his prime. Solid deal and a good piece for the Avs to lock up. I really like the way the Avs are coming together, thanks to Ottawa for the help on that one

This is a great deal. Keeps him until 28 or so? Fantastic. Being paid second pairing money as he continues to get better and better, while the cap hit becomes a less and less percentage every year? Fantastic.

Dev's aired on the safe side with Butcher 3 years 3.73M AAV. Kid had 74 points through his 2 seasons, Girard had 48........ A bit risky, but if he can be a #4D or better, than its money well spent.

As for Rantanen, do you think the Aho deal will be a close comparable?

One thing to take note of though is that Girard currently is still younger than Butcher was at the beginning of his first contract.

This deal has the potential to be better than Barrie's is and we all know that Barrie is getting paid next year. I would say Girard is slightly behind Barrie offensively at the same age, but has been leaps and bounds better defensively. His positioning is outstanding.

I think Rantanen is looking at about a million more than Aho per year. The numbers are better for him consistently so far.

Most likely.

This is a great deal for the Avs. It'll look like quite the bargain very soon.
