Could have been worded better- should have been along the lines of an "aging core" versus an aging team. Three of PIT's top four forwards in points from last season will be at least 32 by the beginning of the season. Two of their top-four D in ice time are 32. Should have worded that in a different way but was more so to say that a good bulk of their top/most used players are old.
And yes, no doubt the Islanders are a very old team (I did an article on them having an aging team a week or two ago).
