The Sobotka buyout is 1.5 this year and 1m next year. Hunwick buyout is $1,083,333 this year and $583,333 next season. Botts has no choice imo. He needs cap savings now.

we'd be lucky if he did one buyout as he really doesn't like them...he should make an exception for Sobotka...Hunwick he can waive, will be very useful in rochester

Unless, like Homie said, Scandella is on the move now.

Agree on Hunwick, just wanted to throw out a comparison to Sobotka. He needs to do a buyout, even if he doesn't like to do it.

Botts is not allowed to BO Hunwick. All BOs at this stage must be 3.5M or more AAV.
He also has the choice of trading. Sobotka clearly is not easy to unload, which is what it is, but we also have too many NHL dmen. Hunwick and Scandella make each other expendable. But Hunwick is cheaper. Not sure which of them have more value. But D depth is always valuable. Much more than useless forwards.
What frustrates me is that we are so close to the cap fielding a team that may or not be competitive. That tells me we have too many bad contracts on the books.

No he doesnt. Send Sobotka and Hunwick to the AHL. He has absolutely no need to buy anyone out.

BO period begins 48 hours (ish) after your last arb meeting.
For the Rangers, it was the essentially the midnight after 2 days. So my guess is BO period opens for Sabres on Monday morning.
Edit: Player must make $3,455,438 AAV. And BO period is for 48 hours following the 3rd day (00:01 Monday morning for the Sabres) after the last arb hearing.

No choice? He has plenty of choices. He doesn't want to drag these contracts out past this year and I don't blame him. Trade(s) is coming.
Just randomly posting this 'cuz it's so effing awesome. One of the greatest scenes ever. The whole scene is extremely well done (addition of bell chimes at certain points is amazing), but the part where Mac say's "I won't change my mind, 'cause I don't have to. 'Cause I'm an American. I won't change my mind on anything, regardless of the facts that are set out before me. I'm dug in, and I'll never change" reminds me of this message board. Anyway, here you go :
