Hopefully with these new players/coaches etc, they stop giving up the most shots in the league. Everybody expects the cup, and there we are giving up shots like we're the Sens. Not going to win many rounds giving up more shots then you take. IMO

Gave up 400 more shots 5v5 then Boston....pretty sure the better team won last year.....(frank)

Leafs have had chronic defensive issues for ages now, at least they spent the summer doing a major overhaul on the blue line. I'm hopeful that we will notice a difference this year.

at least they are not getting badly outshot. TB was actually worse (all sit)

I was reading a Q&A with Anton Stralman and he had some interesting things to say about the Lightning's commitment to team defense. I'm paraphrasing here, but the numbers I remember: "We would've stopped at 45 wins and maybe not even that if Vasilivskiy wasn't our goalie."

When you lead 7-0 by the end of the first period, you tend to allow more shots.

are all better goalies than Andersen - and all significantly better.

Andersen is in the Bishop, Fleury, Murray, Hellebuyk, Quick, Dubnyk, Varlamos tier.

I just want to see more creativity on the powerplay. Let them step outside the box and stop being so structured and predictable.

Without having the stats in front of me, I'd assume most goalies have relatively poor SV% while on the PP. Usually, the PKers won't go on a rush unless it's an odd-man opportunity or if they're 1-on-1 against a forward playing the point, so the quality of shots is likely better than the average 5v5 shot.

"I knew the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks, and these Maypole 'Eafs are no 2010 Chicago Blackhawks." The favoritism for this boring team and it's "woke" city are cringey -- I don't expect the crippled currency and socialist taxes of Canadia to ever again assemble a champion, but goodness is it is something else watching the ever-shifting goal posts and rationalizations verbally and textually shat out of 'Eafdom.

without a doubt - Leafs gave up a lot of short handers last season. Hopefully they learn from this and risk a bit less and just get the puck on net more and not be so fancy!

We allowed 14 short handed goals IIRC and I wouldn't change a thing about our PP. It was too effective to worry about it. The problem with the Leafs was that once their PP dried up towards the middle of the season and the percentages they were sustaining started to go down, they had a big problem on their hands with short handed chances against. I think Adam was on to something with a 3F 2D with Rielly and Barrie on the backend. Who would man the second unit though? It's not like Babcock rolls out his top PP, like say the Penguins (which I don't get why not). So you'd be giving roughly 50 seconds of PP time to a second unit which is quarterbacked by someone I may not trust to be back there so much. The one I was thinking of was Dermott, but he's out till late November/December.

the thing is at 5v5, Tampa doesnt really lead any categories of shots when leading/trailing/tied

the are in around the top 5-10 for most.
