Obviously this is dependent on being healthy, but I expect Giroux to put up a season closer to his 17-18 campaign. I can easily see a 90+ point season from him with the additions of this team throughout the top 9 as well as on the back end. I hope Therrien puts him back on the near side half wall on PP's where he's had so much success over his career, and adding into the mix that playing with Coots does otherworldly things for him. Pair that with a Konecny (or dare I say a Farabee/Frost) and I think the sky is the limit.

With that, opposing teams can't key in on just that one line. If they do, our second and third lines can do some damage as well. It's finally going to be nice to see a team that can roll 4 lines and not have to worry about sheltering anyone. A third d pairing of (projected obviously) of Ghost and Myers would be such an upgrade over third pairings of the past.

He has been living in semi-seclusion in Northern Quebec ever since the unfortunate Denny Pratt tragedy.

I've actually had SlapShot on my mind. The other day, I watched the Gordie Howe Story (yeah, it's Hallmark, whatever) and there's a scene in it where Bill Goldthorpe, the inspiration for Ogie Oglethorpe, is taunting Howe in a hotel after the Aeros went down 2-0.

I don't know how much of that story is true and how much of it is used for dramatic purposes, but he and his sons apparently pissed off A LOT of people going to the WHA.

I found the Gordie Howe Story, of all places, at a dollar store in Henderson, TX. It's enjoyable.

If you havent read Ed Willes's "The Rebel League" about the history of the WHA, it is totally worth the read.

I'd like to see the Flyers separate Voracek and Giroux from PP1. They both can quarterback the PP from the half wall G on the left side, Voracek on the right. That way the Flyers can alleviate some of the pressure to score with the 1st unit only and evenly distribute PP time across through all their PP players.

Ice time won't ever get distributed evenly between the two units. Either PP1 gets two shifts to PP2's one, or teams tend to let PP1 overstay their shift to keep pressure on.

If I were the coach, I'd just have Ghost, G and Jake stay out the full 2mins.

Agreed. I believe it's really up to Patrick to start running the 2nd unit and that would definitely open up a double threat on the PP.

I want him netfront. He was effective there late in his rookie season, even though he had never played that spot before in junior hockey.

Patrick looked good filling in for Simmer, he's got quick hands, big body, and is a smart player. I wouldn't mind him in front, Sanheim top of umbrella, Hayes and TK flanking and Lindblom as the last guy, either down low or high slot.

Although I wouldn't want to put him there now as he has less than 25 games in his NHL career, I would love to see Myers at the point on the 2nd PP unit, not in the same role as Jake but perhaps switching up the 2nd unit from the umbrella to a more tradional 2 dmen set up. He has such a booming shot and being RHD can be on the right side naturally to help against the boards. I hope one day we can see that with Sanheim on the left point as well

Absolutely. Having that presence on the PP is key. They'll surely be hoping Patrick can develop into a leader on the 2nd PP and be able to run the 3rd line alongside Lindblom.

Shayne Goatisbehere - 86 - Offensive defenseman
James Van Riemsdyk - 84 - Sniper
Carter Hart - 84 - Hybrid
Ivan Provorov - 84 - 2 way defender
Matt Niskanen - 83 - 2 way defender
Kevin Hayes - 83 - Power Forward
Travis Konecny - 82 - 2 way forward
Travis Sanheim - 81 - 2 way defender
Brian Elliott - 81 - Hybrid
Justin Braun - 80 - defensive defenseman
Nolan Patrick - 80 - Power Forward
Oskar Lindblom - 79 - 2 way Forward
Tyler Pitlick - 79 - 2 way Forward
Michael Raffl - 79 - 2 way Forward
Scott Laughton - 79 - 2 way Forward
Robert Hagg - 77 - defensive defenseman
Samuel Morin - 77 - defensive defenseman

What do you disagree with? Rating and build.

Also, who is getting an “A” this season? Possibly Jake but I think Provorov is ready.

This is good...give Lindblom a chance to distribute from behind the net or set an extra screen.

I dont think Provy is ready at all to be honest. In addition to his up and down year last year, giving him the "A" only adds to the stress of being the number one guy. I think we should wait until his game gets consistent at the level he is accustomed to playing before giving him a letter. In addition to Giroux and Coots my vote for an A would be the obvious Jake, but outside of our forwards, and depending on how camp would go, I wouldn't mind giving it to Nisky. Sure he has only been here one year, but he certainly wouldn't be the first guy to come to a new team and get a letter. Guys like him lead by example and, specifically, he has been through some wars. the respect for him from the young guys should already be present.

Niskanen does seem like a more obvious choice but I think that creates the same MacDonald Scenario. Provorov takes on the most and the toughest minutes of anyone on the team and he wants a massive contract as compensation and we’re worried about a silly letter on his chest.

Patrick JVR
Giroux Voracek
Ghost

Hayes Couturier Konecny
Provorov Sanheim

Is how I'd construct the PP units to start.

Not only that, it would be nice to see Konecny take a little charge. I would like to see Konecny on the left half wall. Konecny has never looked right anywhere else.

Yep, TK on the left and Hayes on the right. I really think the d-man spot is up for grabs to the best showing. Provy, Niskanen and Myers are all possibilities in addition to Ghost and Sanheim. Depending a little on who gets on the second pairing and who plays on PP1...

Is it September yet?
