Haha you once watched your team be good 25 years ago. I get to watch my team be good now, this coming year. You have to watch McDavid get more and more frustrated missing the playoffs year after year until he inevitably leaves.
- HealthyScratch6

Except once again this year, you guys will face Boston in the playoffs and lose in game 7, again.

If only your D could deflect this well your team would see the light of the second round once in your life time.

I mean that a very large portion of Oilers fans who saw them win the cup 5 times are still alive today and have the luxury of seeing their hometown team dominate the NHL the way that they did. Nobody from the canadiens era is on the internet right now, they are being served pate peas and carrots from a plastic spoon from their nurses right now or having roses planted on their headstones after they died of old age.
- Rev

Are you kidding me?
The Canadiens won in 71,73,76,77,78,79,86,93 With their 4 in a row wins ending in 79
The isles then won the next 4 80,81,82,83
Your dynasty Oil then won the next two 84, 85
Montreal AGAIN in 86
The Oil in 87,88
Calgary in 89
oilers in 90
Penguins in 91,92
Canadiens Again in 93
So i am guessing you want the cut-off to be 84 right?

So what would you all be willing to dish for Ristolainen?

I’d gladly do Russell (cap dump), Puljujarvi, Broberg and a pick.

If that pick is a conditional 7th and they send back a 2nd. Ristolainen is not a good hockey player. Okay, but not good.

I'd do Pulju, Russell (Cap Dump) and one of Jones or Bear.

Risto for Russell/Pulj/conditional 2020 2nd (if Oilers make the playoffs = 2nd, if not the 2nd becomes a 3rd instead)

I think Ristolainen can be an excellent hockey player, provided he’s used correctly and not asked to do too much. Neither of which was the case in Buffalo IMO.

Where would he fit in ? Next to Nurse ?

I’m glad you’re optimistic. He’s a decent bottom four powerplay specialist. He just has never passed the eye test or the analytics test for being all that good. He’s like a homeless-level poor man’s Mike Green. He’s not worth that much. I wouldn’t include Broberg for him at all.

Not in my ideal lineup, no. Both he and Nurse take too many risks (not that this necessarily is a bad thing), so I’d pair him with Klefbom.

Nurse-Larsson
Klefbom-Ristolainen

What’s more, I’d treat neither pair as the so called “top pair”. Ideally I’d like to see each pair receive almost equal minutes and situational opportunities.

I have a suspicion that we shan’t be agreeing on this topic any time soon.

I'd take a pass on that. Gagner, Puljujarvi and a 2nd is about as far as I would go but that likely doesn't get it done for Buffalo. I don't think there's a fit based on available cap space, but I wouldn't be opposed to adding Risto. Despite his flaws, he could fill a role behind Larsson and help keep Bouchard down in the AHL for a couple years.

Now is that because you are quite high on Broberg, or quite “meh” on Ristolainen?

I’ll answer that question with a question:

Have we had a better top four in the last 10 years?
