What would be the problem? - DarthKane
Well, Sikura sux. He's played 480 minutes without a goal. So it means all this forward depth is a mirage if he's in the top 6. Ya' folla me? |

Hockeybuzz hotstove debates top 5 goalies in the western conference. No mention of our guys except one guy throws them out as honorable mentions. No respect for this team again. It would be nice to make these "experts" eat crow this season (no pun intended).

I did take the time and read what you wrote. And yes back injuries are very tricky. I also said if you look at his age and the last 4 years as a snapshot , it's highly unlikely he will reproduce the same or similar numbers as he did last year.
Could he sure anything is possible, but taking into account his age , and all the hockey he has played in such a short period of time I think he will put up a respectable season 60 to 66 points but not a 78 to 84 plus season. - Taylorst1
Why not? Brad Marchand is 31 and has been getting better and better with age.
Crosby had a down turn and couldn't stay healthy for several years in a row. He is 32 and played some of his best hockey last season.
Bergeron at age 34 just had a career year in points.
Giroux had 3 pretty mediocre years in a row from 14-17. The last 2 seasons he has turned it around big time.
If Toews is healthy I see no reason why he wouldn't replicate last season.

Well if he makes the top 6 then he earned it. He wouldn't be default top 6 just b/c he is on the roster. So I don't agree with that last poster about having a problem with him in the top 6.
2 open wing spots and lots of potential names to fill them. Hawks will pick who they think best fills the spot.
If he is on a line with Toews and Kane he is going to have to bury his chances this year. |

Crosby's worst full year is 84 pts. Toews best full year is 81 pts. Some of Crosby's partial years are better than Toews full years. The two aren't comparable Toews compares better to Bergeron and Backstrom.

To me that dark horse is Kurashev who could really make things interesting. The ripple effect down the lines would yield 4 solid combinations. - 67hawks
I spent time watching him early in his draft year and yes he has a offensive prowess can drive the bus, but he also is an easy guy to play rough against and he (in his draft year) disappeared. |

I wasn't comparing stats or point totals. I was comparing slumps/injuries and players of similar age and skill bouncing back and even getting better with age.
People had Crosby written off because of his injuries and concussions. Dude came back and won 2 cups and played some of his best hockey at the age of 32. |

Yeah not sure why last year would be an anomaly. Toews looked faster, more explosive, and seemed to have rejuvenated his offensive game and creativity. That isn't just going to disappear.
I am actually hoping that Shaw takes a similar trajectory as Marchand (obviously not as talented offensively) and continues to improve his offensive game as he ages, i.e. focuses on his offensive game more and a little less on the shenanigans. |

To me the best goalies are the ones that show up when it matters. What is Crow's head to head record in the[playoffs against the goalies mentioned by these bloggers (not experts IMHO)? Case closed in my book. |

I actually don't think those spots are going to solidify...the idea is to mix and match personal to match up player to player, line to line against teams.
I expect Nylander if he has a strong camp in all phases to be given a chance to play with skilled guys, because a skilled guy with offensive potential can grow more with other high end players than bringing a guy in and expecting his to be versed in NHL wing and asking the rook to carry offensive generator down low in the lines.
That being said, the obviously want Strome to get better in his coverage and motion and in a perfect world he and the cat get a add on who carries part of that load...I see that as one of the new pieces b/c if the winger were here last year he would have solidified that spot. That might be Shaw 5 on 5.
I think Kane and Toews will play all over and with various wingers. Don't think shifts with Smith our there doesn't help Kane's game because offense these days is not just generation from the forward position.
It will be interesting as to who from the Icehogs and the new additions will be able to get time with Toews and or Kane.
I just think that you really won't see comfortable lines rolling that are set...the PK and PP, are, but it is gonna be about maximizing the guys with offensive talent with guys that help give them a chance to succeed. |

Another d-man? Rockford depth? - Rota's Rooter
Something has to give. There isn't enough playing time in Rockford.... is Boqvist for sure headed to the AHL and not back to London?
Gilbert, Beaudin, Krys, Holm, Dahlstrom/KK, Carlsson, Boqvist?
Probably missing a few too.... |

No money left for Perlini now...has to be another move ahead...
EDIT: nevermind, I guess if he plays in Rockford there is still money left for Perlini
Just weird that we have all of these defenseman and not enough space for them...again, probably another move on the horizon. |

I think Philip Holm got a tryout in Vancouver two years back. Had some size and grit and good skills...not sure if he in NHL ready at 28

Maybe some teams call the Hawks for a depth D due to an injury during camp, or maybe Dahlstrom or 4K don't clear waivers and make it to Rockford. |

I agree, last year JC bounced forwards all over the place. Same will happen this year. It'll be about matchups.
Im hoping with the addition of Shaw, Smith, even Carpenter this leads to some juicy turnovers in the opponents end.
I know Smith is who he is, but i believe if you can surround him with not the same player as himself, let's say Saad and Dach, he can be very effective role player on that line. Kind of like Caggiula was for Kane and Toews.
