Something has to give. There isn't enough playing time in Rockford.... is Boqvist for sure headed to the AHL and not back to London?
Gilbert, Beaudin, Krys, Holm, Dahlstrom/KK, Carlsson, Boqvist?
Probably missing a few too.... - bhawks2241

I am very interested in the hawks helping the Flames by sending one of our extra backliners to Alberta for a pick.... |

From Gavin Lee, courtesy of Pro Hockey Rumors...
The Chicago Blackhawks have brought in some more defensive depth, signing Philip Holm to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Holm $700K at the NHL level and brings him back to North America after one year in the KHL.
Holm, 27, signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks in 2017 after a breakout season in the SHL, but ended up playing just one game in the NHL. Instead he spent most of the first part of the season with the Utica Comets before being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights and ending up in the AHL again with the Chicago Wolves. While he didn’t get much of a chance in the NHL, Holm did dominate the AHL level scoring 38 points in 63 games.
In 2018-19 with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, Holm ended up making the All-Star game and recording 26 points in 61 games. The puck-mover showed once again that he can contribute at one of the highest levels in the world, obviously leading to interest from the Blackhawks. Where he fits into their depth chart isn’t clear after they have completely rebuilt their defensive group, but his presence does give them another experienced option if they run into injury troubles. |

Just a point of information I have from the Dylan Sikura hawk career.
The team didn't see packing him up to Rockford because they liked his efforts and they felt that he was just one goal away from breaking loose and raining the net with pucks. They truly felt its was gonna happen, well, the puck luck was bad.
I know it is easy to tag bust on a guy....I never like Pirri's game never thought he make and impact but,he still keeps getting signed to attempt to make one... |

Crosby's worst full year is 84 pts. Toews best full year is 81 pts. Some of Crosby's partial years are better than Toews full years. The two aren't comparable Toews compares better to Bergeron and Backstrom. - rpeters01
Excellent comparison. Crosby is a elite player , even toews never racked up over 100 point seasons as Crosby has many times.
I'm not against toews I just think toews matured at a earlier age and stage in his career , where as Kane seemed to bloom a bit later but has gotten better with his age.

On the Holm signing, the Hogs defense looks like this so far assuming (1) Boqvist goes pro, and (2) de Haan is healthy which sends one of Dahlstrom or Koekkoek to Rockford (my guess is Dahlstrom gets sent down):
Beaudin
Boqvist
Carlsson
Dahlstrom
Gilbert
Krys
Tuulola
Holm would make 8.
On AHL deals so could be in Indy or Rockford: McArdle, Osipov, Ryczek |

I see Stan's plan. Sign any and all available d-men and force a trade. - Rota's Rooter
Flames recently bought out Stone and have been rumored this summer (I believe even in the spring) to be shopping at least Brodie if not also Hamonic. They may need to keep both of them.
Or do as others are suggesting and ship some of the Hawks depth on D to the Flames for draft picks (maybe recoup the picks sent to the Habs for Shaw) and/or prospects. |

Maybe we seem to be set with a Toews-Kane, and a ADB-Strome towsome as top 6, to help the defense maybe JC is looking to revolutionize the sport and go with a 2 forward 3 defensman line-up.

Why not? Brad Marchand is 31 and has been getting better and better with age.
Crosby had a down turn and couldn't stay healthy for several years in a row. He is 32 and played some of his best hockey last season.
Bergeron at age 34 just had a career year in points.
Giroux had 3 pretty mediocre years in a row from 14-17. The last 2 seasons he has turned it around big time.
If Toews is healthy I see no reason why he wouldn't replicate last season. - bhawks2241
Sure their are a few players who can still play at a elite level or solid enough over 31 years old.
But Boston was well ahead of the curve with retooling their team , that does help a lot of their elder core.
Crosby is in a league of his own , his worst year is still better Than Toews best year. Crosby on numerous occasions put up over 100 points toews never sniffed 85 points.
I just think toews matured at a earlier stage in his career and peeked . Now I don't see him replicating his great performance last year next year. Plus I also think having hossa as his wingman with Sharpie helped elevate his game and confidence .
That's all . |

Agree. Holm seems to have potential but burying him in Rockford isn't going to help the Hawks this year. Maybe he shows enough at camp to earn a spot and make Dahlstrom or Koekkoek expendable to someone for some picks.

The one factor that makes me think that Toews will produce more than you think is that his career shooting percentage is a little over 14%. His two down years were at 9-10% and last year was back to 14.9%. He's working with teammates and last year started working with specialists. Time will tell.
