What's "his" money?? I say let him sit. Go play in KHL.
- Bullot

Sure. So both wingers from the first line out, one for 2 months, the 11th overall in the NHL for the year. No Dermott for two months. Plan the Parade.

This make sense but if this were happening you would think both sides would sending out more positive signals.

I think you need 4 of your own first-round picks in the next 5 years so I believe they could offer-sheet someone. Please, anyone, let me know if I'm wrong about this.

I don't disagree with you at all here.

I don't think he's worth it from a current day Leafs' perspective; in that they can't afford him at the price unless it is the 9.5 range on a 5-6 year deal.

- Kinger34

That MIGHT get it done....once the season starts....he might buckle a little and sign for 9.5 x 5. But, that is the low end, and would expect it to be a little higher then that. But, 9.5 x 5 could be close enuf once he begins missing cheques, to make it happen....

He would be making a huge mistake. After Nylander last year, fans have a short fuse. He would face a huge backlash from many fans. After all these years of underperforming and outright chokes fans have very little tolerance for a player trying to squeeze a team that has accomplished nothing!
- spatso

Didn’t stop Dubas handing out the coin to JT & AM. Marner had no part in that & wants to get paid like they did. Problems began there & we are here now. Term is the big key & i predict MM wants 5yrs & doesn’t care about the overlapping Dubas wants. The $$$’s are the 2nd of the deal & the hardest to guesstimate but I’ll say close to 11m is the ball park.

Exactly. If fans mattered so much, why is Nylander, a holdout, who (frank)ed the dog all last year still on the team? Because they don't. I mean honestly, the team has been run by bafoons for 50 years and people think the fans matter.
- aminnes

Making money hand over fist doesn't make the Leafs urgent at all. Any GM can do what Dubas has done if they had his purse.

It's still the McEichel draft where both players are of equal talent

Remember when Eichel metaphorically pissed in McDavid's backyard.

Settle down, he's not Aho. Marner is good buddies with Suzuki and likely is aware of the insane talent coming in the next few years so I'm sure if Dumbazz continues to lowball him like he did Kneelander he would gladly entertain a change of scenery to a team that appreciates his worth and will be a contender in the next few years..just like Aho did.

- Komisaurus Rex

Oh, you poor delusional HaplessHab fans. Aho played Bergevin like a banjo. He used Habs to close his negotiation with the Canes owner who was low-balling Aho. Smart offer sheet signing. He and his agent KNEW it would be matched and the likelihood of playing in hockey purgatory was 0%. Well played Aho....and Hab fans got sucked in to sad Bergevin ruse of "See, I tried really hard!!!"....was a comedy of epic proportions!!!

Unfortunately, Mcavoy’s agent went fishing for tuna off the Coast of Portugal and has turned his cell phone off so he doesn’t scare the fish.
- flipneil

McAvoy is enjoying life at the cottage and banging hottie randoms.

He has no idea what is going on with the negotiations. He is just going to sign whatever his agent tells him to sigh. It is all up to his agent.

But apparently McAvoy, Werenski, and Proorov all love hockey and hate the business side of things. So the bad blood is coagulating and the ramifications may change the sport. These 3 players, and their respective GM's have all hired bodyguards and routinely wear bullet-proof vests now.

well obviously this is all true... it should be obvious to everyone... but don't rub the Habtards noses in it.. then we'll get weeks if not months of attempted explanations in two languages of why it was a good idea.

when they tire of that ... then we'll get weeks if not months of why Max Domi is #1 center...

c'mon man... let sleeping dogs lie (to themselves)

Dubas should let Marner sit and call his bluff. Right before the clock runs out he'll sign the Leafs offer faster than a Mike in Basement blog after Lucas posts his blog. It would suck to have Marner miss so many games but I'd like to see at least one GM have the guts to stand up to these RFAs. Does Dubas have it in him to do it?

He'd have to risk losing Marner for the whole season. But he can't allow Marner and his Dad and Ferris to bully him. Give Marner a fair offer and if he still wants Matthews money then tell him to have fun playing in Europe for the season. Dubas should've done this with Nylander last season.

How long can the Leafs wait till Marner cap gets to a point where the Leafs can no longer fit Marner under the cap.
Suppose they would need to trade someone before that happens. Marner potential cap hit this year could be 14 to 16 mil depending when the Leafs' sign him.
