I'm not sold that if you pull Skinner and put in Duchene that you're helping. You can argue it would be a better situation, but I don't think you can say that swap makes some amazing difference that propels us into relevancy.

Not saying you disagree, but Skinner >>> Olo

- RhinoFan

I agree. 100 percent.

We got a guy that has PROVEN he can get 30-40 with a true #1 center.

Pay that man

Pominville was on pace for 25. I’m not saying you can just put a monkey out there but we didn’t need to drop $9M on a winger for Jack either.

Olofsson-Eichel-Johnsson
Vesey-$9M 2C-Reinhart

Skinner-Eichel-Johnsson
Olofsson-Mitts-Reinhart

Which Top 6 wins more games barring Mitts having a huge breakout year ? Look at the Centres making that kind of dough and put any of them in that 2C lineup and I take that roster 10/10.

- Swedish_Jesus

But how many 9 million dollar calibre centres were available? Unless you are getting someone like a Branden Point or mark scheifele, I don't see how the later line up doesn't beat the former.
A top line of Skinner Eichel and Johnsson is better than Olo Eich and Johnsson. Also if you are acquiring a 9 mill centre the piece going the other way would have to be considered as well.

He’s eclipsed 30 goals 4 times in 9 years, I wouldn’t say he’s a “regular” 30 goal scorer. He has never had back to back 30 goal seasons either so I guess that is something to look for this year if he can buck that trend.

Regardless top dollars are better spent down the middle and on defence then on the wing and nothing anyone can say will deter my thinking of that. Skinner is fantastic but overpaid by $1-$1.5M annually.

- Swedish_Jesus

Arguing over 1-1.5 mil as opposed to letting him walk and not having him on this roster is an argument that is well beyond by comprehension

Or any hockey move so we can berate Botterill for not getting in on it.

Changing the subject, because I like reading the heated arguments here...

Who is going to be protected in the expansion draft? I know it is a ways away, and we don't have too many players signed long term, but who would you sign after this year, and who would you protect (assuming same protection rules as the Vegas expansion)?

Pomminville couldn't keep up especially for a full season

Evander Kane couldn't hit the net

Okposo couldn't play well with Jack

The notion that anyone could play with Jack is wrong

Jack does make everyone better but it takes someone who understands how Jack thinks and can be in the right places at the right times to really shine while playing with Jack. Sam does it well but he is more of a playmaker.

Jeff Skinner scored at almost will while on a line with Jack.

Eichel
Skinner
Reinhart
Mittelstadt
Vesey
Johansson (have to, I believe)
Okposo (have to, I believe)

Miller
Montour
Ristolainen (McCabe if Ristolainen is traded).

Ullmark

Dahlin should be exempt.

Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Skinner

We're two seasons away, and who knows who will rise and fall and join and leave.

You don't need to protect either of them. One is a UFA and the other doesn't have a NMC

Isn't the expansion draft next summer? Johansson will have 1 year left. Either way, I would protect him, but I thought it applied to NTC's as well.

Also, I thought Okposo had to be protected last time around. Are you telling me that was voluntary?

* All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits.

So if Okposo won't waive they will have to protect him even though I doubt he would get selected

Okposo had a NMC, like Skinner will.

He no longer has that.

He does not have one anymore.

I encourage everyone to scroll down to the Sabres section. Jeff Skinner is the only NMC. NTCs don't have to waive poop.

He no longer has a NMC. He has a MNTC, which does not require protection. Different rules for NMCs and NTCs.

That’s probably the most untrue thing ever posted on here

Name ONE, just ONE, player from last years roster who wasn’t crapped on?

*apologize in advance for singling certain ppl out,
it’s just to emphasize the point

Homie with Eichel...
“Needs to grow up, be a better leader”

Pegulaville with skinner... “don’t pay him 9mil, not worth it”

Sbroads FINALLY came around on Sam,
but can he truly carry his own line?

Dahlin didn’t perform to Boss’ expectations

89 has “never had faith in either of our goalies”

Do i need to go on???
Ok... i will (you all knew i would anyways)
How about me with Berglund, Sobatka & Tage?

Mitts underperformed, “better trade for a 2C”

Okposo should retire

Pommer can’t produce if he isn’t with Jack...
No, we don’t want him back (sorry Boss)

Girgs & Larsson can’t score and suck at life
-j crag

Bogo has been better, BUT... hurt again! Shocker
Is there a way to dump him?

Scandella... would we reverse that trade if we could? Wtf is he doing in the lineup over Pilut?!

Risto is barely a “4” and we should’ve traded him 2yrs ago

Maybe Montour wasn’t here long enough to get sh!t talked?
Oh wait... “we got WORSE once he arrived”

THE PLAYERS DON’T GET BLAMED???
Players get ripped on here CONSTANTLY,
every... single... day

- jdfitz77

You focused on half a sentence and mis-characterized my entire point, while reinforcing a key part of what I said: everyone has their whipping boy.

(frank).

Eichel
Skinner (have to)
Reinhart
Mittelstadt
Vesey
Oloffson (I think he will have 3 years then)
Sheary

Dahlin
Miller
Montour

Ullmark

If Jokiharu turns into a stud, Montour is out.

According to capfriendly the only person right now that needs to be protected is Skinner

That's why I only picked 4 players. We're going to lose someone we like this time around.

We have more than 4 guys at F or D that are worth keeping. Probably Joker Pilut Dahlin Miller Monty and any other guy he trades for on the back end.

Up front is Eichel Reinhart Skinner, probably Mittelstadt, probably Olofsson, and any other forward they pursue in the next two years.

Even if you do a 4/4 split, you're letting go of a good foward or a good D. As for G, all we need to do is protect Ullmark. UPL is exempt and so is Hutton because he's UFA.
