Lindros was a special talent no doubt be he is not an equal to Clarke as a player. - MJL
Different era, Lindros would destroy Clarke one on one. Just like he destroyed Paul Coffey when he run him over at the blueline in Vancouver. I am sure you all remember that. It happed 30 feet in front of me. |

"Here I am dressed up in my Flyers jersey at a Flyers game in Vancouver, obviously a big Flyer fan. Clarke was standing by himself and I approached him politely and he just walked away pissed that a fan would talk to him ?? Never liked him since, great player and lousy GM"
Or, perhaps, just a good judge of character? |

I have had the pleasure of talking to Eddie Westfall, Jiggs McDonald, Orland Kurtenbach, Darcy Rota but had the chance to talk to Bobby Clarke at a Canuck game and he was an inconsiderate wiener. Here I am dressed up in my Flyers jersey at a Flyers game in Vancouver, obviously a big Flyer fan. Clarke was standing by himself and I approached him politely and he just walked away pissed that a fan would talk to him ?? Never liked him since, great player and lousy GM - joegreif17
He knew exactly who you were so he was smart to walk away! |

Sure, it would be easy for Lindros to destroy Clarke one on one. Eric was fast and would outweigh him by at least 50 pounds. But based on watching Clarke play for 15 years, after getting destroyed he'd pick himself up and assist on a goal while Eric is pulling splinters out of his ear. |

I love Eric. But because he was such a monster he plowed through with his head down. Clarke’s head was on a swivel and might not have been exposed. Different eras. If Stevens did that to Clarke in 1974 he would have been torn limb from limb. Ask Barry Cummins. |

He wouldn't have to...
1) He would not skate with his head down.
2) He played in the era where players were taught to defensively raise their stick, giving the would be hitter the choice of veering off or skating right into the lumber.
3) Alternatively, there is good chance that Clarke would have proactively two-handed or speared Stevens.
4) If Stevens did succeed in hitting Clarke high, there would have been a beeline for Stevens by every Flyer on the ice and the rest leaping over the bench. Ask Barry Cummins how bloodying Clarke worked for him. |

Thanks Not many of us around that remember. A good refresher. Unfortunately memories of that era are fading. There were lots of pictures of the Cummins incident in the papers If I wasn’t so cheap I would go into the archives and check it out. |

so you're saying Lindros should have swung his stick around like a weapon and depended on goons to protect him? |

I'm saying Clarke protected himself better (and also had all his teammates ready and willing to step in, if need be). As for the defensive stick raise as a "shield", all players back then were taught to do it and it was legal. The two-handers and spears were not, of course. |

Why not? I'm hoping they give Kapler the boot and he takes over.

Just my opinion but ...
Back then if you ran someone they didn’t swing but they definitely had their stick up to protect themselves and they should.
Love Lindros but he invented head down

So Clarke benefitted from goon hockey the big E didn’t not have to worry about that as much |
