If moving Quick I would have to think they would be calling Carolina no?

They have a loaded system and are ready to start competing on a consistent basis. Adding Quick should do that, plus he isnt that expensive so the salary shouldnt scare them off.

What would you guys expect to get back if Quick got back ? Like what do you have to get back for it not to be a failure ?

Funny you say that, Devilish4. I wrote a piece awhile back with the thought of Carolina and LA possibly making a deal. It was all a hypothesis, of course.

It's a good question...I think first and foremost would be CAR taking on all of, or most, of JQ's money. He makes something like $5.8M per for the next four years.

I'd say getting back some pieces that can find the back of the net would be sweet because scoring was really down.

Any idea what Quicks value would be ? You want scoring so would that mean for this year or future ? Are we talking a 2nd and a mid prospect or something like just a higher end prospect ?

I’m so bad with this stuff. I’m sure I’ll get torched by others on here. Haha.

I’m not sure what would be fair...Quick is an aging, oft-injured guy, but can be nasty when healthy and has two cups to his name.

With the direction LA is going in, I’m sure they’d want to get what they can for the future. They had a great draft and the emphasis is on the coming years.

Assuming Jake Bean is the 3rd LD in Carolina, that leaves one D too many, and their abundant number of RD coupled with UFA Status and CAR only having ~$2.5+ in cap room, I’d say we’d be looking at taking G James Reimer and D Trevor van Riemsdyk, whom carry $3.4 and $2.3 cap hits respectively, totaling only $100k short of JQ’s $5.8 cap hit.

In TvR we’d get an RD to slot in front of LaDue and after Doughty. TvR possesses some wheels and offensive touch coupled with a very average defensive game.

Reimer we’d either immediately send down and save the $.925 against the cap, paving the way for the Campbell-Petersen era in net; or we’d flip Reimer for a bag of pucks and no retained $$; or hold him in Ontario in case if injury.

Depending on the timing of the deal we could also stand to flip TvR for a 3rd at the deadline (when people overpay for things) otherwise we’d be lucky to get a 4th or 5th for him.

I consider TvR and Reimer the COST of doing business, ie, doing CAR a Cap Solid to make the deal work, the cost of which would be, in addition to the cost of actual acquisition of JQ married to the cost of one F Tyler Toffoli (CAR struggled to score in the playoffs, Toffoli has had playoffs success and carries a pair of rings as a young guy into a room of young guys which, will likely regain former teammate And CAR captain Justin Williams); we further the Cap Solid by retaining 50% of Toffoli’s Cap Number, allowing CAR to skirt by safely, not counting any LTIR savings the season is likely to trigger by someone somewhere, and the LAK return is something that addresses quality and quantity:

TOR 1st Rd. Pick
(acquired in Marleau deal)
NYR 2nd/3rd Rd. Pick
(becomes 2nd when Adam Fox plays 30 Games for NYR this Season)
Rights to RD Luke Martin
Rights to C Jack Drury
Rights to G Jack LaFontaine

G James Reimer
RD Trevor van Riemsdyk

Seems like a lot, but there’s a lot of risk and if CAR is making a move like this they’re going all in on a Cup, as they should. Williams MAYBE has another year or two if he even decides to lace them up this season. You’re buying the added bonus of familiarity between he and JQ and TT, which will likely help in re-signing TT if I’m CAR.
