Todd would it make any sense for the Devils to try and move Zacha to the Flames for Frolik and a pick ?

I know we are kind of past the point of stocking picks but we have thrown a lot of 2nd rounders away recently. I suppose Frolik would be able to step in right away to replace Zacha so it wouldnt be a move for the future but just keep things flowing smoothly.

The other question is would Zacha have to be signed first and is his value at a place where we could move him for Frolik + a second rounder? Or are you comfortable continuing forward with Pavs and see if there is more to squeeze out?

I think its very plausible, Nico, Hall, Gus, Hughes, Bratt, Palms and Simms ALL get 20+ goals. If that does happen, its PO time.

I thought Coleman got a bit worn down late in the season so fewer minutes might keep him fresh.

I don't mind the penalties because its a byproduct of his hard play. He often provides some very needed push back and grit. It's not really from a lack of discipline or stupidity.

While his overall counting stats will likely be reduced from less playing time he should provide some secondary scoring which has been greatly lacking on this team.

Any chance the Stars would take Coleman, Smith, and Vatanen for Heiskanen?
Just kidding people. There's no way in hell Dallas would trade Heiskanen.

But seriously, do you think the Devils can trade Coleman to Dallas for a 2nd rounder? Coleman goes back home and the Devils free up space for a bubble forward.

Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Gusev-Hughes-Bratt (worried they're a bit on the small side but plenty of upside)
Boqvist-Zajac-Simmonds
Wood-Zacha-Anderson (Rooney, Bastian, McLeod)

I still think the Devils can still move Wood and Zacha and field a decent 4th line of
Hayden-Rooney- one of Bastian/Anderson/McLeod
(Have Speers, Baddock, or Seney as the extra forward(s))

I'm not sure what the Devils can get for Zacha and Wood.

Even if Hall leaves the team the following year, it's a setback but the Devils can see if they have something with:

Gusev-Hughes-Palmieri
Bratt-Hischier-Bastian
Boqvist-McLeod-Anderson
Rooney-Zajac-Hayden

Why would you trade all that legit NHL talent to get fringe guys into the lineup.

Rooney, Hayden, Anderson, McLeod and Bastian etc. have to earn their way in.
Either in training camp or via injury call ups.

No, to every part of this

Why trade a depth player to hope a prospect can become a depth player? Let the prospect develop and challenge that player for that depth role. Why run the risk of a prospect not panning out and being stuck with the bottom 6 being AHL players. Did you sleep thru all of last season?!

There's nothing wrong with bringing up a player too late, let them develop in the AHL and bring them up when they are ready.

As for everyone saying they want to trade Zacha, STFU already. Yeah it sucks he was a 6th overall pick, but he is a VALUABLE NHL player. Those don't grow on trees. We could've had Yakupov, Puljujarvi, and other players that have no business being in the NHL. Zacha will be our Zajac for years to come, and it will come a lot cheaper that the $5+ mil that Zajac is getting.

I've been a Devil's fan since 84-85. I've learnt there is always plenty of misery in hockey. For us. For every team. No planning or help necessary.

No way Shero makes that trade. Zacha is the 2nd best penalty killer on this team. We're not giving him up for some 31 year old, irrelevant, bottom 6 forward

I don't understand all the 'we need to trade wood' talk. He is a great bottom 6 player on a good contract. People complain the devils are getting too small (he is one of the bigger/stronger guys on the team) and is one of the only guys on the roster who will drop the mitts with whoever if he needs to. He doesn't get pushed around, won't take crap from anyone and will pot 15 goals. I just scratch my head when I see people continuously say we need to trade him. He's a guy you need in the playoffs.

Coleman is 27, miles better than Rooney and Anderson, who will likely never amount to anything, and brings an ingredient this team needs.. grit and tenacity without being a liability. While your lineup isn't terrible, I like what we have in Coleman. We still DON'T know what we'll get out of Simmonds, Anderson, McLeod, Bastian, Boqvist. I prefer to have Coleman in the fold this year and in the next several.

I miss Kenny Agostino so much.... said nobody ever. Except me. Just now.

But seriously, liked the guy a lot but I'm not moving someone out of to put him in the lineup because that would be (frank)ing crazy. Especially now that he's not on the team.

I mean if he was.

Still on the team.

Where the heck did my meds go?

Kenny is the new Kovalchuck! (I seriously yelled that at Devils games when he was on the team). Both wore 17. So there's that.

Obviously didn't yell it when he wasn't in the lineup.

Kenny.

Kovy hasn't been in our lineup in a long time.

(frank) him.

Kovy.

Just to be clear.

Bud how much value do you think Zacha has ? Right now what he brings can br replaced by an experienced vet who can bring the defensive side that Pavs brings. Let me remind you that Sven Baertchi went for like two seconds so frolik plus a second doesnt seem that far off....

You also looked at nothing that was coming back we dont need our team to have so many young players on it so we get experience and a future player to come in also not much to not like here.

Love that ppl think we literally cant trade Zacha lmao.. Just far to important of a piece... I doubt teams could even submit a proposal that equals the value Pavs brings....

seriously I love pavs but dont act like he is Jack hughes. He absolutely could be moved and right now there is a logjam at center so if we can get value for a player rapidly being passed on the depth chart and hasnt exactly met expectations you would be stupid not to.

Its just figuring out what the right value would be coming back...

right, but at 22yrs old, we don't know if Zacha will mature into something more than what he currently is, and something an "experienced vet" could bring. He could be more, and likely will be more. I'm taking the 22yr old developing player over an aging experienced vet. I think this season will finally give us assurance if he will or won't be more. (I feel like I typed this same exact thing sitting in the same spot in my room last offseason lol).

It may benefit some fans to search the stats for various B-level players, and see how many seasons (and years of age) it took before they really hit their stride to being what they are today. For most it takes 3-4 years.

I think Zacha is Zajac 2.0, and I am cool with that. Defensively responsible centers are good to have.

Exactly. Devils are getting a Zajac replacement without paying $5+mil a year.

Zacha is exactly what this team needs after Nico and Jack at 1/2.
