Listened to a ridiculously negative Crossing Broad podcast this AM with Seravelli's on the surface hot takes. Much preferred Bill's rational guest appearance last week.

Critics ignore 2 things about Hayes:

1. How good he was on the Rangers last season:
https://bluelinestation.c...-report-card-kevin-hayes/

2. The slump WPJ were in even before he got there. https://jetswhiteout.com/...at-can-fix-winnipeg-jets/

I'm betting on Pitlick winning the 3RW spot out of camp. However I think a rookie, most likely Rubstov will have the spot by the end of the year.

If Pitlick, Laughton or Raffl takes the third line opening... Who is the fourth liner?

A young player (Rubtsov, Aube-Kubel, or Vorobyev) or someone such as Andreoff (who is on a one-way contract).

We did the typical flyers. Trading away picks for a guy that won't put us over the top

The Flyers traded back into the second round and then moved higher than they initially would have picked. There is nothing to complain about. In net effect, they traded down three spots (11 to 14) in round 1 and expended a pair of third-round picks for a 20-min defenseman. Wanna venture a guess how many other teams would do the equivalent given the cap space?

Actually yes, the deal is more complicated than that. San Jose was cap strapped to start with. Why give them so much?

Because three teams -- including a division rival-- all asked the Sharks about Braun's availability. Thus, SJ got their ask.

Am I missing something, I thought Ernie was pretty good.

UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings today acquired forward Adam Erne from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Detroit’s fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Depends how far down the chart (injuries, slumps, AHL youngster readiness for callup, etc) they have to go.

MJL is going to be mad your opinion isnt the same as his. He says the trading back into the 2nd is irrelevant even if fletcher may have had that planned the entire time.

Yes, he believes they do not have anything to do with each other, which of course they are technically two separate transactions made at two separate times. I've discussed with him ad nauseum that I truly believe Fletcher had made a proactive plan after trading a 2nd and 3rd away, that he wanted to try and make a trade (if it was the right situation) and recoup a 2nd round pick, due to specifically trading away the original 2nd round pick to SJ. He does not agree with me, but I think in the end you look at the cost of Braun as two 3rd's and moving back from 11 to 14.

It’s really not worth getting sucked into it, Bill, but as long as you’re having a good time... 😉
