Carol Schram: Jim Benning's reported contract extension means the Canucks' time is now With Friday's report that the Vancouver Canucks have extended the contract of their general manager, the onus is now on Jim Benning to show that his vision will yield a playoff team sooner rather than later.

Thanks Carol,

Canuck's are all in this season. Hopefully they don't play the injury card again if they fall short.

For a GM not doing what he was hired for,,, he still manages to secure his job well.... hot seat narrative doesnt hold water very well. Not that I think he shouldnt be on the hot seat. Keep in mind that FA has a history of celebrating too early.

So the JB extension is a starter fire of reactions. Maybe some middle ground that despite mistakes things haven't been catastrophic and the team is moving in the right direction. The debate over cost will rage though the ingredients for success have been put together.

They re-signed Edler and Tanev is still here. That is the pocket aces of injury cards.

Hey Neem,,, on the Burrows comment.

Yes because the AHL affiliates signs players independent to the GM
- neem55

You are mistaken.

Burrows was independent of the Canucks. The Moose GM scouted and signed him and brought him up from the ECHL. Canucks had no control of the Moose then. It was on AV's suggestion that the Canucks looked into signing him.

Long time ago... no worries.

Those 2 guys are expected its EP, BB, etc to stay healthy. However, if D starting 6 is more capable then maybe those 2 don't have to play as much lowering the injury odds. Plus OJ staying healthy for call up as he develops would be helpful.

Even if you're a JB hater, this is good news.

1) Having a lame duck GM with pressure to make the playoffs is a recipe for disaster.

2) It's not like he'd be the first GM/Coach to get hired a year after signing an extension so you guys can still hope

Yeah, that was more of a Craig Heisinger/AV thing IIRC

Yep. Burrows was great about explaining his whole career path to me not long before the Canucks trade him away.

It’s 4 or 5 distinct thoughts all rolled into one incoherent paragraph.
