I'd say the main reason was that they weren't that good. At points last year, and the year before, I got the impression that the cup run may have been a fluke. They played above themselves and now they're constantly chasing that level. Sure, they get there at times, but have trouble maintaining it on a consistent basis.

And yes, I know that describes almost every eventual cup winner, but what's been more consistent with the Preds? Lack of scoring? Terrible discipline? It's a shame really, because Peks has pulled out 2 or 3 of the best years of his career and they've become unglued around him. He deserves better. (Though he's always good for one or two completely horrible playoff games).

I hope Duchene is the thing that gets them over the top, but I have doubts. Mainly coaching doubts. Sometimes change is good. That's directed at you, David Poile.

All your best players having a below average to outright terrible series... Your smallish forwards getting tossed around and bullied by Dallas' bigger forwards, a lot which happened to be their skill players. The coaching staffs inability to find a way to adjust against a stifling Dallas defense. The obvious effort and desire you saw out on the ice in Dallas' game that by far dwarfed the Preds, or just the fact that Dallas just flat out played better. No, the PP wasn't the only reason the Preds lost that series. Let's not forget about that moment late in game six either when Jarnkrok had the game on his stick until he ran smack into his old nemesis... A wide open net. Dallas still probably wins the Series, but that whiff just might've caused the Preds at least a shot at a game seven.

It would probably serve the Preds best if they resist temptation and keep Tolvy in Milwaukee all next season. That would exempt him from the upcoming expansion draft without having to protect him. It would be nice if Tolvy suddenly turned into a beast next season, but it's highly unlikely. My only concern is that Tolvy gets frustrated, pulls a Radulov and goes back to the KHL. There's already rumblings he's not happy stuck in Milwaukee.

I don't think the team that won the President's Trophy was a fluke... Last year definitely, the Cup Run debatable. There was a swagger and extra gear behind that team that all but disappeared about a month into last season. Everything seemed to fall apart all at once... Forsberg and Arvy both get hurt around the same time and miss large chunks of the season. An already slightly OR Subban gets hurt early and never seemed to be the same after that... Turris and Ellis who had both been steady hands throughout their careers both turned into golden dog turds overnight. Instead of continuing to progress, Fiala regressed to a point that he's now in Minnesota. The trades for Simmonds and Granlund were total duds, Tolvy went from an untouchable prospect to one DP couldn't trade away for a bag of pucks, and let's not pretend all the Austin Watson crap didn't have some kind of effect on the locker room. Dang, now that I've said all that, it's hard to believe this was a 100 point team and not a total raging dumpster fire.

My guess is...not so much. Reasoning: defense last year was stressed because we couldn't score goals. In theory, that has been (somewhat) remedied. If goal production increases, the defense will not be required to compensate. So, they can focus on defense.

PK was inconsistent and at times a turnover machine. Not to mention he took really stupid penalties at the worst times. I'm looking forward to seeing the kid play. There will be a learning curve, but as I said, if we can score more, it won't be as acute.

Now if Duchene is as hyped...and Turris gets his head out of his derrier...

I think Nashville will be searching for a good defense-man to fill the gap left by PK... Fabbro will not be able to fill that gap... Our Defense is WAY TO SMALL.. ie Ellis being tossed around like a rag doll... and not to mention the ever present Kyle Turris looking like loss ball in a field.

My predictions for this year..

Turris WILL continue to be turn into the next Erat.

Pekka's age WILL be a huge factor, can a backup arise from the ranks to light our darkest hour?

Duchene WILL be a flop on the power play. (im giving him the evil eye)

Everyone WILL be hating DP for letting PK go...

Next year we WILL be searching for a new coaching staff.

I fear this team has shot its wad.

What we WILL Also SEE..

Foresburg WILL continue to be awesome, but will be injury plagued

Arvy WILL continue to be great, but will be injured for trying to do to much

Ryan Johanson WILL be MIA, but still on the ice..

Ellis WILL get laid out more than carpet

bet it!!!
