Nah Marner isn't going anywhere outside the NHL. Just a negotiation tactic.

K Palms had a great season but my recollection is he struggled late with the lineup decimated. He shouldered too much load and hopefully with our new depth we can keep him fresh all year.

As for the Marner going to Switzerland; He said he's exploring training there not playing there. It's posturing as a holdout.

2 more seasons at 4.65M AAV is an absolute bargain for Palms! A 2nd and 3rd was all it took from Ana, and those players look to be busts. We need to make more deals with the Ducks, they are terribly managed.

Gio will only be there for so long. Monahan and Johnny should be the highest paid. Either way.. Tkachuk would be so so sweet. He'd be the gritty guy we need.

But.. if Bratt and Gusev develop into 60+pt players, there's really no room for Tkachuk. He wouldn't be on the 3rd line. Maybe Bratt would be better on the 3rd. whatever. When our big guns get their big deals, I doubt we'd be able to afford ANOTHER expensive young piece. I'm thinking of Smith and Goalie too.. if they demand big deals in the future. Center (Nico), Center (Jack), LW (Hall), LW (Gusev), D (Smith), G (Blackwood).. there's only so many spots for big money. In a few years, IF all these guys pan out to demand big money.. I think this is a wise dispersion of cap space.

I think you're over thinking it. Gusev is a UFA in two years. He likely will sign elsewhere for big bucks if he is very successful. Other guy will either pan out or not. You add talent when you can and deal with the cap problems later. Load up on assets and trade away other players when you have to. I'd rather have too much talent and figure out how to sign them instead of looking for players that can make a difference.

I don't think there is any chance of getting Tkachuk but still. Just saying.

Vats came over and was our top D that season. Henrique was shopped heavily before the Perry buyout, but nobody would take his contract on. Currently, Vats would get us better trade value. It wasn't overly lopsided, but I sure wouldn't want 5 years 5.825M AAV for Rico. That contract will be bought out in 2-3 years time.

I don't disagree, but I look at this a little differently.

Herrique did very well when he showed up in Ducktown, just like Vats did in Devilville. The fact that Duck's management then extended an excessive contract is on them; and not so much part of the deal - IMO. Although we did benefit with them resigning him because we received a conditional third round pick back....

Nah, I, not sure he'll be resigned. If Hall resigns its his, otherwise hope Nico shows leadership abilities.
