A 50/50 hockey revenue split was negotiated in good faith and signed by both parties. Therefore, the players can either open the contract and try to renegotiate as allowed in the contract on September 15th or suck it up and understand the terms of the contract they voted in. Whining about it when it does not benefit you does not mean $&!(... - riozzo
What the escrow winds up doing is having players currently under contract subsidize the deals signed by players not under contract - RFAs, UFAs....like, I don’t know, deBrincat and Strome. Toews will be paying back to the league something like $1.5MM so that the cap will be high enough to fit AdB and Strome under it. (I don’t know how all of those escrow giveback-dollars get distributed among the teams).
If next summer, the players decide not get the escrow down to zero (or to go into the owners-pay area) by not agreeing to an escalator, it will dramatically reduce Stan’s ability to resign the two critical RFAs. |

Yep, the escalator often pits player versus player. The owners have their own issues with the small versus big market teams. It often comes down to which side better controls their own factions.

I don't think there has been one year the players have received the escrow back. Depending on your point of view the CBA has been a glorious success or miserable failure. I would love to see the players opt out and put their money where their mouths are. Otherwise as has been said, don't whine about what you have signed. |

Actually it's about helping the Canadian teams relative to the C$. 6 teams or whatever are the reason for escrow. Chicago, Detroit, Boston and New York need to show them who is controlling the league. Philadelphia is a bigger metro area than Montreal. I don't think Toronto would mind the escrow is protecting the Winnipeg and Quebec's of the world. - rpeters01
You might want to compare revenue per game from ticket sales in Canadian markets versus what stalwart franchises like Arizona, Florida, Carolina, Anaheim and a few others south of the 49th take in. |
