Peter Tessier: Before camp opens the Jets have to address issues There are many questions due to roster changes and contract statuses but understanding the past is where the Jets can figure out a better future.

Trade Laine with Kulikov and get a bunch of players that are NHL quality or very far along prospects and fill out the roster.

Few things,
We all like to point fingers at Maurice, me included but I also firmly believe Chevy and chipper also weigh in on things like lines, deployment and basically all decisions.

Absolutely NO to Ehlers for Ristolainen. Nope, notta, never!!!

Whether we like Maurice or not we can be sure that after the regression the Jets had last year the leash is shorter. If they struggle in the first 3rd of the season he will be on the hot seat.

The major problems with the Jets are their lack of a defensive system that allows 35 plus shots a game, predictable zone breakout, dump and chase for skilled players who don't excel at that type of game, poor line combinations, a reluctance to give young players a fair chance to play on the top two lines or the top two defensive pairings unless there is a long term injury, signing and playing over the hill veterans over younger more talented kids, a dysfunctional locker room, blatant favoritism by the coach and a refusal to adjust any so called game plans when things aren't working. All the above falls on the shoulders of Maurice and his coaching staff. The Jets have draft and develop players the are not given a fair chance to play and the team then signs old useless players the Maurice will play. I fear unless the Jets address these points they will be the most talented team to miss the playoffs this season

I guess I should clarify and say I sure as heck hope not, but have no idea if it’s being discussed

Take the pessimist view with the Jets this year Tessier so you won't be disappointed. I already envision a lineup with Bourque on the third line. Copp centering the 4th line with Roslovic and Appleton as his wingers and because there is no roster spot, Vesalainen playing for the Moose.

Has anyone ever considered that for the past 2 seasons, the Jets were going for the Cup and that because of that, veterans were played ahead of rookies ?

A bit but no one thought they would be contenders in 2018- they got there though. Last year everyone picked them and when things went to crap there was no way to pull out. So the coach did what he thought was best ride vets and that basically meant he did not understand that was part of the problem.

Come on BW, Bourque will be on the forth line with Copp and Lipon. Lowry will stay on the 3rd and continue to have native Corsi against other teams top lines and not score a goal until game 30 and we will continue to come on this site to only be told that he is "elite".

Risto is a cap dump hidden poorly under big minutes

That’s a bizarre way to go for a cup. Usually you would want the best players playing the big minutes

Uuuuuh, this is all incorrect.
Bourque will be a healthy scratch, likely rotating with Letestu.
Lipon doesn’t make the team now that Bourque exists.
Lowry doesn’t have whatever a “native Corsi” is, but he is a high level play driver with top tier defence.

Bourque will 100% be dressing for the Jets game 1 of the season Rexypoo. The truth is I would rather see him playing 8 minutes a game with some PK time, then give Vesalainen the same 8 minutes.

The best thing for the Jets is that they don't sign Conner or Laine for the first month of the season and open up 2 spots in the top 6 for Vesalainen, Roslovic and Appleton to battle for and see what they can do.

That must be why Morrow got the start over Niku and Poolman last year

Yeah that's why when looking at quality of competition, Lowry consistently has a 49 and below Corsi against other teams top lines. I guess we have a different idea of what high level play driving is.

QoC balances over the course of the season, and is random half the time. A 49 would also see him faring better against top competition by a sizeable margin over 81-55-26, so I’ll take it

I agree that 4th line duty isn’t it for Vesalainen. Bad for his development, and won’t put a huge dent in our chances either way.

Having said that, I’m not high on any of our 4th line options of it looks at all like this:
Perreault-Scheifele-Laine
Ehlers-Copp-Roslovic
Connor-Little-Wheeler
_____-Lowry-Appleton

Bourque, Lipon, and Letestu? I’ll take Lipon. One was never that good, and the other has declined out of NHL status

No piece of evidence supports that QoC balances out.
