This is a Justin Faulk insurance policy, for when and if he's traded or moved at the deadline. I like the move and with a very reasonable salary and term.

Fabulous deal for Hurricanes. Many Leaf fans would have been ok with signing Jake for that contract.

Crazy signing. Canes have a solid d core. I had written off resigning jake for the leafs as i thought that number wasnt on the table. Leafs paying more for cody cici. Would rather have jake. Hes a solid d man. He had unfortunately just had his biggest mistakes at the worst times for the leafs. Great signing. Just a little jealous lol

It about guarantees that Faulk won't be with the Canes next season. It remains to be seen if he finishes this season as a Cane. My best guess is he is trade bait now.

Some Leafs fans may have ok with that contract. I feel quite sure most would not have been ok with it ....his reputation with Leafs fans not withstanding. With Dermotts injury JG51 may have slotted into the 2LHD position but once TD23 returned JG51 was almost assuredly moving down to 3LHD $4.05aav is too much for for 3-6 D-man on a team with cap crunch issues. So NO, most leafs fans would not have been ok with resigning him at that contract

Gardiner is a very solid offensive player who is soft defensively.
With the right partner, he can be very effective.
Seems to me the Hurricanes now have the best defense corps in the league.

This is a great signing for the Hurricanes. Gardiner has his issues in the defensive end, but he's excellent in the offensive end. Paired with a reliable partner, he can be a definite asset. I did not think he'd sign for so little.

He got a rather serious back injury at the wort possible time. That hurt his value.

Something to keep an eye on: there have been ongoing conversations between CAR and ANA about a Justin Faulk trade, but there are still details to be worked out
