Does James Tanner root for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Agreed. Best takaway/turnover ratio in the league. Had 4 pims last year. Unreal player.

Not typically in agreement with the Tanner guy (usually picks Leafs), but I think he’s bang on here in terms of Kerfoot’s defensive ability. Such a smart player and great speed which helps him on the defensive side....Barkov is pretty hard to vote against though!

I’ve seen Kerfoot play quite a bit - man he is solid away from the puck. He’s exceptional at forcing the play.

Also agree about Marner. I know he kill penalties, but killing a penalty (structured approach) vs playing defensively 5v5 is a different game. Marner is a heck of a player though, no doubt. Maybe just not defensively YET. He’s smart enough to become one though. I would say Matthews plays a better 200ft game right now.

I say it all the time “Why do you let Tanner comment”. This guy knows nothing about hockey.

I don't know why you would say that. It's pretty clear that the Leafs have:

- the best forwards in the nhl, including the best duo in matthews/nylander.

- Four number 1 dmen in rielly/barrie/muzzin/marincin

- the best goalie in the league; and

- the best defensive forward in the nhl in kefoot

Any reasonable person would have to agree that the leafs have all this talent; especially when considering the nhl has a hard salary cap that spreads talent around....

And you seem to know nothing about running a website and getting people to click on things.

The guy is talked about on here more than the players, he blogs for the Coyotes. He knows exactly what he's doing.

You make some good points here Tumbley. Tanner is just being objective.

I like how Tanner mentions that he's not sure if he's ever mentioned a Leafs player for one of these things..meanwhile every hotstove features a Leaf player as his selection of the best over nhl player by position.

Hunk, we rarely agree but you're 100% on this one.
Eklund would be moronic to ever pull the reigns on Mr Tanner.
