Longobardi said the meeting Monday with state budget director and project developers is still on. "We decided we should do everything we think necessary to protect the village," he told Newsday Tuesday. "We will be at the meeting and hope it's productive."

"This lawsuit concerns a project proposed to be developed for private use on a portion of Belmont Park that is, by any objective standard, completely at odds---in terms of
purpose, proportionality and compatibility---with the suburban communities that surround it."

Jim Baumbach @jimbaumbach

The basis of the lawsuit is this ---> Floral Park believes that plans they uncovered (via a FOIL) that show NYRA had drawn up plans for an Isles arena at Belmont before any RFP raise questions about the legitimacy of ESD's subsequent public bidding process for Belmont land.

There are three defendants:
-Empire State Development
-Franchise Oversight Board (which owned the land at Belmont until just recently)
-New York Arena Partners

Do what every other contending team does. Make the moves to make your team stronger and worry about this other shat later. Now by making moves to make the team stronger I don’t mean signing bad players for to much money and four year contracts.😂

Trotz seems to think similarly

-- Even with depth on blue line, Barry Trotz said D Noah Dobson has a legitimate shot to make the team. "If he's ready, and the organization feels he's ready, you have assets and you have to just figure out where that goes." #Isles

Probably just political grandstanding and grasping at straws, honestly. As pointed out above, I have a real hard time seeing Cuomo behind this project just to have some small-time village mayor that got less than 1600 votes kill it in court.

They're alleging that the ESD violated the law by having an RFP with a rigged outcome

- eichiefs9

They're using the suit as leverage to get something out of the state. Cuomo will throw some money at them for some village pet project or other and the suit will go away.

if I was an Isles fan, I'd be drooling over the thought of acquiring a pure scorer like Patrick Laine to go along with an insane playmaker like Barzal

would be like a modern day Adam Oates/Brett Hull

I don't think the isles are done...…..I think both coach and GM have said that if someone earns a spot they'll have assets to move. Im just hoping they can snag a top six winger. They never replaced Tavares' points and once they do I feel like they can go deep.

I agree with you there. Replacing his points would be huge just don’t see it as being realistic at this point unfortunately. The only way I see it to come close happening is one of the kids surprising and from where they are at in the development process I can’t see that happening.

I think this year they're gonna asses what they have an move whoever is not part of the puzzle. The youth is starting to knock on the door, and you cant keep everybody.
Id love to see a trade for a kid like Matt Tkachuk.....but I realize its a dream of a dream.

That’s what last year was for. They shot for Panarin and it didn’t work out. Not a big mystery what this team needs and who sucks and needs to go. It’s just figuring out how to get rid of them. I do agree though the kids have to get a long look and that may or may not help with the process but the rest is all pretty obvious no further assessment needed.

I get the thinking with Panarin…….trying to sign skill without giving up anything. But, I don't think Lou pulls a Snow and continues to preach his belief of his lockeroom whilst they continue to fail. If they did in fact go hard after Panarin, he's basically admitting his need for an elite winger.

Yeah of course. Like I said it’s not a big mystery what this team needs. Getting what it needs is where it becomes a bit sticky. I don’t see how that’s going to happen or what could be an even realistic way of improving our top six unless there’s something going on which none of us are aware of. It would be an awesome surprise but going with history just not likely. Hopefully you’re right believe me it’s not like I don’t want it to happen.

I know we're not used to it, but we're also not used to both coach and GM publicly stating that youth making the team leaves assets to address other needs. From the horses mouths....
