If we hear everyone rate a particular player in the same spot, then maybe you can feel it may be about right. But writers doubtfully spend a lot of time watching tape and are not bird dogs (scouts). How many sources did they reference and i mean actually spoke to!

No sir......tbeir craft imcludes designing a story
The story has a pre-planed way they want to come across. They come up with the precise wording. They tinker with whom to put in categories. They may even move some names to a category or rank number just to develop talking points and fan the flames of debate. They are after all selling a story so there meeds to be some ways to gain your interest with their analysis.

I am sure that Tyler and the Breadman had some journalistic training in this part of the craft.

No journalistic training for me. But all of the other stuff you hit the nail on the head.

Mo, I think I might be the wrong person to ask if Darth sleeps on a bed. But if I was a gambling man, I'd say he never sleeps. Kool Aid drinkers & crazy theorists never sleep.

And how will Rogers’ experience impact the new US rights negotiations, which will be happening in two years (I think)?

The league and PA are looking to have dramatically increased rights fees - will Bettman be able to generate a market competition - will the league have enough leverage to be able to spread the rights out to more than one network (as all of the other three national spirts do)?

Stay tuned....

I think you're right. There are a lot of learnings from this deal which will be taken into consideration in a couple years.

Stay tuned, indeed!

Josh Morrissey agreed to terms on an eight-year, $50 million contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. It has an average annual value of $6.25 million.

This the way the future path will go for GMs, you decide on the defender's upside, and then go 8 years and lock them down, and IF they continue to show profound mastery of their position, you get a top four guy, possibly.

Interesting to me that last year it was Seabs, this year Saad. Is it random or do they pick the guys whose commitment is questioned regularly by fans?

Yes, i meant you wben sent that post.

Oh. BTW your avatar got me thinking

Wishing we could call Trubinsky I am the Breadman. I guess he projects closer to become more like Jim MacMahon and never a big time passer.

I cannot get over the J Solar (baseball) coming out season. I hope the Blackhawks do not give up on a prospect slow to develop with a crowded position. Solar was on dl a lot too. But he keeps cranking out HR (strike outs too). Hit #44 HR today. Possibly Theo passed on a prospect who just happened to hit 50 HR thus season

I would use. Nylander as a comparison if he moved on from Chicago and then had a big points season

It could be that most/all of the guys train t like this and some of us just project onto them what we assume they are (or aren’t) doing.

The Hockey News had a feature today about Gravel, talking about his potential to represent Team Canada as goalie in the WJC in December.

The latter part of the article talks about his long-term plan in the Hawks system with no rush for him given the potential for Lehner, Lankinen, and Delia to backstop the team for the next several years. No mention of Crawford.

Notable quotes from the Gravel article:

“He never lets a bad goal bother him,” a QMJHL scout said. “He’s got a pro mindset. It seems like the harder the competition, the better he plays.”

“He’s got some confidence. He’s just poised in the net. There’s no panic,” Rockford IceHogs coach Derek King said of Gravel’s play in Traverse City. “There were a couple of shots (that were) definitely screened, where you think it’s going in, and he was just square to the puck. It hits him and the rebound comes, and he swipes it away.”

I feel like I’m faster. I’m a little bit leaner. My puck tracking is better in general,” Gravel said.

I recall an article I read earlier in the summer where a goalie expert talks about Gravel's size hindering his ability to make saves after an initial save leading to rebound chances.

While his tracking is good, his agility to go from one save to the next is an area for improvement for him. At least he feels he is getting faster and the Traverse City tourney showed his confidence to bat rebounds away. Hopefully he keeps trending in that direction.

The question that I would pose is not whether or not this Blackhawks team has improved, but has the team improved relative to the other teams in the division. It does not matter if the Hawks moderately improved if the other teams in the division have also taken steps forward or were better than the Hawks to begin with and did not take massive steps backward.

Have the Hawks overtaken the talent level of any team above them?

I look at the changes this past offseason that Bowman made and with the two exceptions of the De Haan trade and Lehner signing give Stan a massive thumbs down. Oli Maatta is slow and injury prone, De Haan (while effective when on the ice) cannot stay healthy and neither can Andrew Shaw (games played last three years: 68,51,63) and Shaw's style of play does not lend itself to aging gracefully, Nylander appears to be a guy with a ton of talent but could not make an impact on a mediocre Sabres team, Smith - meh 4th liner with a $3.2 million cap hit, and the Dach pick was certainly not what anyone expected.

Time will tell with Dach, but I am nervous about him. If Bowman was going to trade Jokiharju, why not pick Bowen Byram and have a stud defensemen who may be able to step into the lineup immediately? (Personally, I would have picked Bowen Byram and also think that Zegras could wind up being the most productive forward picked after Hughes and Kakko).

Stan's decision making should be questioned by the folks at the highest level. From the Seabrook exension signed far in advance of being necessary, the Bickell re-signing (he had a great playoff that year and the signing reminds me of how the NFL Superbowl MVP's got a ton of money based on the results of one game), the 1st and 2nd Saad trade, Anisimov immediate contract extension (oh and corresponding trades to deal with said contract extensions), Dale frickn' Weiss trade, questionable draft picks and history of not being able to develop and hold on to his the first round picks (not sure if this shows poor judgement during the draft evaluation process or a lack of patience), propensity to bring back former players who may not fit in, etc. The list goes on and on, with my point being that the bad moves are more expensive in the salary cap era and are more difficult to recover from in the short term. I do not see a plan in place, but rather a recent series of reactionary movements made by a guy who is feeling pressure that he brought upon himself due to his mistakes.

Looking at this team as it is right now, the biggest improvement that I see is the signing of Lehner. The backup goalies have been attrocius over the past two years, which may have been a result of a porous defense (which Bowman put together) and hopefully Lehner can help solidify and take over the starting goalie job from Crow. I would love to see nothing more than Corey get back to his elite level, however, with his injuries over the past two years and his age, the team needs to look long term rather than reminisce about days gone by.

I am not sure what to make of Stan's buddy Colliton quite just yet but will give him the benefit of the doubt this year. As a long time Hawks fan from the Wilson (Doug, not Behn)/Savard/Larmer days I never thought that I would see this organization win 3 cups in six years. However, witnessing what Bowman has done to this team, I do not see this team getting back to an elite status with him as the GM. I will watch and cheer for them, but will accept losing if it results in Bowman losing his job.
