The only reason for the Sens or Chabot to sign early is the issue of term. If nothing else were being considered, it is likely something in the range of $18m over three years (Werenski/McEvoy +). If you look at Provorov (and Colin White), Chabot should get $45m over 6 years.

But, my guess is the Sens have already seen enough and they swing big and go up into the range of $64m over 8 years with full salary protection (through bonus payments) in year 3 when the current player contract expires.

imo this is harder to predict than most, as there is no history here.

Personally, I feel like Sens cannot afford to take any chances and should push for a full 8-year term with Chabot. Probably in the $7.5M-$8M per season neighborhood.

They already lost Erik Karlsson because ownership didn't want to spend $11M on the player.. If Chabot continues to grow his game, at the rate he's going, he will be able to demand that sort of Salary by the time any bridge deal would expire. So rather than to risk him continuing to grow into an elite dman in a few years, sign him for the full 8 to prevent him from reaching his pay ceiling at a younger age.

Locking Chabot up for most of his prime years at a slightly higher AAV now will line the Sens up for an absolute steal at the end of the contract when he might command $11M+ down the road with the rising cap.

8 years at $7.8M AAV with an escalating salary structure with each passing year. Likely to include minimal signing bonuses with the exception of the year the CBA is scheduled to end, where the large majority of his salary will be paid up front.

Chabot is better than the other 3 so he should get more (coming from a flyers fan)

Please for the love of God Dorion get Chabot signed early and long term. For once I wish the Sens could stick it to the rest of the league in terms of getting players signed.

A person who decides to say nothing is, in fact, making a statement about something they choose not comment about.

Nobody including the league, media and all the various actors around the Sens are saying anything about the gambling debts. A brief news statement came out but since it surface everyone has passed on providing background details or commentary.

There are rumours circulating that Melnyk’ s health is declining.

He has not been seen or heard from for more than three months.

Are we getting close to resolution of the ownership problems in Ottawa?

Yes, I think you have the right numbers.

I also think the CBA negotiations present a good edge for both the team and Chabot.

All the guys signing three year deals this week are anticipating a new US tv network deal. But....it may also include a work stoppage.

I'm of the opinion that it is going to take 8 x $8M-$8.5M to get it done. For a 6 year deal it would likely come in at just over $45M.

My hope is that they can get the 8 year deal done. Considering that there is loads of cap space for the next 3 years, may as well use it on the current top talent with a goal of a smaller relative cap hit for the player in the future.

I laughed.
There's a meme to be made here - the Mohagan Sun logo....the sens logo....someone with an ounce more creative touch than the ZERO I have.

7 years 50.4m contract (7.2m per)

Many signing bonuses after 3 years from now.

*Get this contract done NOW or could be looking at 8m+ at least

Any thoughts on the battles in camp for players on the brink?
It looks like Duclair is locking one up and Batherson has no plans to go back to Belleville.
Lots of growing pains to be sure but not as many available spots as it would seem when you look at lines.

the thing i hate the most about camp right now is that ryan and boedker are going to take roster spots from the kids........it's infuriating that someone like abramov or brown or whoever is going to be sent down because of the plugs on this roster who are there to make the team reach the cap floor

It would be nice to get Chabot in a long-term deal that eventually pays him less than he is worth, but I don’t see it happening. I see a bridge deal happening for about 2-3 years so he can get paid after that. Unless Eugene opens the wallet now via a miracle, that’s what I expect. It’s in Chabot’s best interest as well to bridge it.

Just the nature of the business. If the young players are good enough, they will find their place on the time this season. You also can’t just play all the young players simply because you are rebuilding. I am not that concerned. Boedker, Ennis, etc have all the signs point to healthy scratch at some point. Young players that don’t look capable of being in the top 6 will probably by held back, but if they are capable of playing in a top 6 role, they will find their way. There is no conspiracy to play old washed up players and benching a future superstar. Frankly, there isn’t really a forward prospect that fits that mould that doesn’t already look to have a spot. The opening day roster and the roster come December/January will likely look very different. Going to be a long road.
