I would do Laine for Eichel, one for one. - TheUltimateJet
I wouldn’t Eichel is a more complete player and plays center, don’t think the Sabres and jets are good trading partners |

That’s too bad, I think Laine would look great in a Sabres uniform. Just like Eichel would in a Jets uniform. |

Chevy is now dealing in a reactive manner rather than a proactive manner if he tries to solve the issues with a trade. I do not see how the jets come out ahead in this situation.
Also dealing away their first round could be the worse thing this team does. If we hit injuries we could be in the running for a lottery pick.
On the bright side, we will have one of the youngest teams in the nhl. So time will be on our side - Jetter
Question is: when has Chevy ever been proactive? |

Good point.
If things continue to spin for him it could be his job!
Forget the summer of Chevy...
It could become the Fall of chevy |

FACK
For the last couple years they were a cup favorite and had a very deep system!
Maybe Niku and Vesalainen have huge years.

You might as well write him off because Buff is definitely done. He never even played in the summer league he founded...Da Beauty league. Highly likely he is totally out of shape. Could it have been his ankle.....don't know. So really the remote chance that he comes back is that Chevy has given him enough time to reconsider, get back into shape and come back. Highly unlikely though.
So yes, Justin Faulk would be a good candidate but is a UFA in a year. Could be a cheap rental. Hamilton would cost a bit more as he has 2 years left. If Chevy play it smart he gets Connor signed to get above the cap minimum and then waits for Carolina, Florida or some other team over the cap to give us a good deal as the first game approaches. Mattheson or Stralman are also possible .
One wonders though why Buff would have not shown the courtesy of giving Chevy more of a heads up because we could have signed Gardner or Chariot , or resigned Myers, etc. Guys were avalaible. |

Even if Buff retires and we dont sign Laine or Connor we will still be above the cap floor, So no worries there
I absolutely say no to Faulk but would be in on Hamilton
I know we disagree but I’m glad Buff decided now and saved us from the mistake contracts that Myers and Chairot got. This season may be a loss anyway and those guys wouldn’t have made a difference

I am really going to miss Tyler Myers. Unlike Byfuglien and Trouba, he had his head in the game and genuinely wanted to be here.
Good luck Tyler in Vancouver. I will continue to follow the progression of your career. I also miss my man Joel Armia. The man was a warrior and made players that played with him better. I still follow his career closely in Montreal. He's had a tremendous impact on the young Finnish kids there. |

I’ll say this: I respect Myers for showing he was always up for being a Jet. He went home only after the cap spelled it out for him.
He did always have his head in the game, as well, its just that it was often an entirely different game than the one being played at the time |

Current cap hit is 66.1 MM . Then subtract Buff's salary of 7.6MM. Leaves $58.5 MM . Add Vesalainen at $894K ....which is still under the floor of $60.2. Did I miss something ? |

At least we are now learning from his agent Luit that the reports about what Patrik Laine said were taken out of context. Some good news at least. |

With all the cap savings from Byfuglien, the Jets should do the unthinkable and offer sheet Brayden Point. - TheUltimateJet
Also agree. Point or Tkachuk offer sheet for $8 MM and give up a first, second and third. Helluva deal .

For all we know he could be online playing Fortnite against Laine.... |

Jets were going to miss the playoffs even if they had Buff playing this season.
Sign Laine, Conner, play the young defense and take stock of the situation next off season with a top 10 pick in June. They can overpay for a ufa or trade a winger then if they have to. |

At least make an offer that Point would sign and TB couldn't match. 5 years at 10.5 million would do it. |

Murat covered this today on twitter, I didn’t dig into it myself but I trust he did, and he said no matter the lineup we dress we will be over the floor without buff, Laine and Connor |

Agree, no way Point even considers it for anything less than a 5 year deal at 10.5. Which costs us 2-1rsts, 2nd and 3rd. |
