I am really going to miss Tyler Myers. Unlike Byfuglien and Trouba, he had his head in the game and genuinely wanted to be here.

Good luck Tyler in Vancouver. I will continue to follow the progression of your career. I also miss my man Joel Armia. The man was a warrior and made players that played with him better. I still follow his career closely in Montreal. He's had a tremendous impact on the young Finnish kids there.

If the Jets don't upgrade their defense, Myers and Chiarot will look like Coffey and Chara, compared to the present seven. (Morrissey and Niku excluded)

Buff was in the Jets camp earlier in the week wasn't he? Do you suppose (and I have absolutely no knowledge - nil, of course) that Maurice broke the news to him that Josh was going to have the letter "A" on his jersey this season? Just asking?

Don't imagine that owner Marc Chipman/Chevy were too impressed with Buff's no-show at the exit meetings last season.

Chibisov, and perhaps Luoto, make the Jets this season. Desire and effort!

I don't think it was about the A. I think he no-showed the conference last year as I think he knew then that he was done. That's my observation now, knowing that he is considering retirement. I think the Jets as a whole bought their own hype last year and thought they were headed towards a coronation. They thought that the Stanley Cup was a lock. Byfuglien, most likely also thought that as well and as a result most likely thought he was going to retire as a champion.

I train often and knowing the work that is required to maintain physical fitness, it can become quite tiring. Seeing as how big Byfuglien is, I cannot imagine it being easy every offseason to keep the weight off and keep the speed up to keep up with a younger, faster and more athletic league. Also, we don't know how the concussions have affected him either.

These are just some random thoughts.....

On the other hand I am really excited for the Jets defense this year. First time all the defensemen on the roster have been drafted or acquired by Cheveldayoff. This will be a great season to evaluate how good Chevy actually is at evaluating talent.

Excited is not the first word I think off when I think about the Jets blue-line.

It’s a good thing Buff will be back UJ, those prospects aren’t ready to take over for Buff/Trouba/TyMy. We’re taking big time minutes here. That D is suspect with Buff there, if he’s not, they could get caved in badly. Just my view from the outside.

Jets moves in chronological order:

1. Sign Brayden Point to an offer sheet.

2. Sign Kyle Connor.

3. Trade Patrik Laine to either Detroit or Carolina

Possible trades being:

To DET: Patrik Laine

To WPG: Evgeny Svechnikov, Andreas Athanasiou, Madison Bowey

Or

To CAR: Patrik Laine

To WPG: Brett Pesce, Andre Svechnikov

- TheUltimateJet

Those two trades have a gaping chasm of difference in value between them

Poolman was very good last night. He showed excellent physicality in addition to a scrap, got pucks through traffic and consistently made simple plays that lead to exits. Biteto is going to be good 6/7. Kulikov is a wild card, I like that he had a summer to train rather than recover, first in a while and maybe will help-also its a contract year for him. Pionk was ok in Edmonton.

Chibisov impressed. Style a little like wheeler and learning NA game. Luoto worked hard but will be on the moose. Jets overall were good, 4th line struggled vesaleinen/griffin/reichle

A Laine trade may set off a nice chain of events:

1) We get back a good return of talent.

2) Connor signs his contract

3) Buff comes back

Not knowing what Buff is going to do (unless they actually do) puts management in a rocky situation.
If they were to trade for a top-4 d-man somehow - and then Buff came back - they would be in more cap hell. So what do they do - proceed as if he is not coming back, or wait and do nothing? That is the question.
They need a deadline from Buff if they don't already have one.
Poolman played well last night. Cemented a spot.

Roslovic & a 2nd for Brodie. He's LS but plays his best on the right side. Reasonable salary, especially if you get rid of Buffs salary hit, leaves you guys lots of room. Brodie can play PP. Hamonic is well liked for his community charity work & I think Flames would like to get him to extend at a reasonable cost. But I would imagine Roslovic & a lottery protected first would get you Hamonic. You know Hammy would resign for reasonable to play in Winnipeg.

Brodie is a liability, with mediocre offense. No thanks. Offer Giordano or kick rocks.

Right!?!?!?! I have been getting turded on for saying he is a competent D, that like Chiarot, may be capable of playing a little beyond his role in a pinch. Ideally he would be 3rd pairing, but he may be thrust into the 2nd pairing in light of all this drama.

Despite all Laine's flaws, he is still just a 20 yr old kid. Not ready to trade him yet as there is so much upside to come. The next two years for him are the "show me" years and I think he can deliver. Bridge him.

I am with you bikeguy. I was one of the first people on this board saying trade Kane and I got the same arguments about him being young, and a future 50 goal scorer then as well. Laine may end up being the first perennial 50 goal guy to never actually score 50. Just like Kane was a lock to score 30 every season, when he's only done it twice.

I agree that Laine will improve the gaps in his game and the upside is huge. Those who know him wil have to make a judgement call on whether any conflict can be worked through and on how quickly he will mature and if that fits with the Jets window. One thing I will say that Dubas got right is that it is not the GM's job to trade away good young players but rather to make it work for the team.

If it is decided to part ways with Laine my hope is that he is sent to the eastern conference so he doesn't have too many chances to light us up for 5.

Just finished reading the article on TSN about there are 8 RFA's left to be signed. I did a little mental math. Currently, 25% of all RFA's that are not signed belong to the Jets. If Chevy does not do something soon, that percentage is only going to keep climbing.

This comment probably means nothing, but I thought I would post it nonetheless.

It's not like there is a lot he can do. He is not withholding money from anyone, it will all be spent on the team. The choices are to wait and put pressure on the RFA's to lower their AAV expectations or to trade the players. The same pie is being shared by 23 guys, how much does each get?

Of course trades are an option but winning trades is 50/50 - especially when you see positives in what you already have. They are RFA's... they can wait for their big paydays like Myers, Chiarot and Tanev did.

My goodness are people clueless when it comes to this team.

Even if the jets have a one year set back this team is very well positioned for a very long time

Heinola and Samberg will both be full time Jets on D as early as next season, who knows, maybe even heinola this year.

With so many great young players either locked up or under team
Control for a very long time. Chevy has plenty of options that do not require a rash impulse move

No need to panic on RFA’s, call their bluff, does anyone honestly think they are prepared to sit out a whole year and be in this exact position next year with no change to their status or any closer to being a UFA

If the agents want to go get an offer sheet, for these guys do it!!!! Please!!! It’ll at least end this.

Can’t say I remember to many people wanting to keep Kane, I definitely did not. But like I said, can’t remember.

I though remember getting ripped on here after we re signed Bogo and I said trade him for Hall!!!! Now that’s funny looking back how right I was and wrong sooooo many on here were

Don’t trade Laine, don’t do it!! The risk in that move greatly outweighs the reward at this point

Hi, long time reader from back in the day when PT used to write the canucks blog but this season I want to participate.

Since Makar in Colorado isn't an option on account of trading in the division, I actually think the best trading partner is New Jersey as they have both Vatanen and Severson, prospects like Joey Anderson and Mike McLeod and all their 1st rounders.

Juulsen would need to be a key piece in a deal with Montreal but he's already got chronic "headaches" and is consulting with a concussion specialist this off season.

Someone mentioned Julius Honka. He's not the prospect he once was. He was often SCRATCHED in Dallas in favor of guys like Connor Carick and Roman Polak. That should tell you something about his game. Other than Heiskanen who they got by winning the lotto, they havent made a decent first round pick since Niskanen in 2005!!! Would a move to the Jets rewind the clock 5 years and make him a top prospect again, I doubt it, but if you want to give up a top 50 pick in the 2020 draft I'm sure Jim Nill is listening.

The Central is undoubtedly the deepest in the league and my favorite to watch.
When the Jets are out of it by Christmas this year just be thankful you have a team in the Peg.

I think Winnipeggers are beyond the point of being grateful for just having a team. That's the type of thinking that irks me. I think fans in Florida, Carolina and Arizona should be more grateful for having teams, considering the poor level of fan support those teams experience when they are having crappy seasons.

I feel bad for Canadian fans in general where they are told to be grateful for teams, while Americans take their teams for granted. When is the last time any Canadian rink had a capacity of less than 80%?

I'd give my left arm for Taylor Hall then or now. While Statsny was a good fit for Laine , Taylor Hall would be the ultimate perfect center for him. One wonders if the Jets might take a look at Backstrom ( 31 yrs old) next summer as he is a UFA next next year. If he was so good a setting up Ovechkin all those years then he surely would be a good fit for Laine. If we could afford either of them with Buff possibly coming off the cap then they would by my two top picks as to who out there would be the perfect fit for a top centerman on the Jets.

Hall doesn’t play Center? Or did he start and I missed that?

Man, I got ripped for suggesting Bogo for Hall at the time, Winnipeg loved Bogo back then
