Do you think Frost being sidelined means he will start the year with the Phantoms?

I wa hoping to see Zamula with a longer look, seemed deserved and that it would benefit the player. Thoughts on this Bill?

The Flyers only have four preseason games left before they leave for Europe. So they need to be using all of them to pick the final Flyers roster, and Zamula wasn't a contender for that.

He had a strong camp. But he was not going to make the NHL team this year, and E is not eligible for the AHL this year. Also, his regular season with Calgary starts on Friday. So may as well send him back to his team now.

Frost will have to start in the AHL, he would have to recover and play lights out in a couple pre season games to have a chance.

Plus Rubtsov and Farabee have looked the part, they would have to fail for Frost to move ahead.

5) Sept. 19 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Scott Daniels (1969), Gilbert Dionne (1970)...

Dionne was the least memorable player from an unforgettable trade in February 1995. No slight to Dionne intended - just that when you get John LeClair and Eric Desjardins in the same trade...

Very glad to see Hexy getting another opportunity with LA. I for one think he did a great job here laying the foundation for a bright future. I fully expect him to get a GM job in the near future. He probably wishes he had never left LA after the way things ended in Philly.

thanks for the audio link. Just an fyi. not sure if it was my computer or where the mic was for you guys. The audio would go softer and the louder. Any chance you will join the radio broadcast team for analysis in between periods? You guys seem to have good chemistry.

yes...he did a great job remodeling our foundation. I'm guessing he will do it again for LA. Then in 6 years, leave the west coast flyers to join the original again. Smart man, only needs two houses....

I agree that Hextall did a great job managing the cap and rebuilding the farm system through the draft. On the other hand, the bottom line of W/L for the team on the ice did not improve one iota in 5 years. Combine that with all of the negativity that surrounded his departure. I don’t see another GM job coming anytime soon. I think he works his way more slowly again up the chain of management positions.

Yeah. I think he perhaps was too loyal to Hakstol and felt that he should be given more time before he went for it all. There was a lot of negativity, and none of us know the full story. IMO it came down to taking too long for ownership, and if the STH aren't happy and jerseys not being sold, heads need to roll regardless of a plan. It's a business and that's the priority. They simply can't justify not making the playoffs every second year, as this hurts the bottom line.

The audio recorded on two channels on the recorder. My level may have been too low on the mic. Will try to correct it for next week. Thanks!

As far as Hakstol goes, I don’t see it as loyalty. I see Hakstol as his puppet hired with no ties to the league. Hexy could pull his string whenever with no pushback. Could you imagine a veteran coach like AV tolerating having Murph the spy in the room at all times? The rest as far as business decisions go I agree with. He seemed to have no urgency for his plan to play out. Failing to get a goalie, a 2C and a coach last year killed him in the short term.

You're assuming that Hakstol was aware that Murphy was relaying info back to Hextall. There is no GM that can control the pace at which young players develop. It was always going to take time. It took 2+ seasons just to build up the prospect base and improve the cap situation.

I would have preferred for him to not always bargain shop for goaltenders and some of the ufa s. I think he didn't want to block the young players with vets but there is a balance. He could have been more aggressive for trades and he should have gotten a better coach

I have no issue with Fletcher's path so far as he hasn't jettisoned all kinds of young players and picks for vets.

I really hope the team starts strong and makes the dance this year. If there isn't significant improvement or god forbid a regression, the pressure will be insane on fletch.

Our div looks tough as hell imo, and tbh I have no idea what to expect from the club this year.

You are right I am assuming that Hak knew about Murphy. If Hak worked next to him for 5 years and didn’t know, then he is even duller than I thought.

It did take quite a while to clean up the mess hexy was left. Who knows. I felt that it was possible that Scott told hexy to be more aggressive and keep them more In the loop and hexy didn't heed direction. If so, that gets you fired.

I've moved on by I'm glad hexy is back in the league as I do believe he did what was needed here for the most part.

I disagree with that completely. It is very conceivable that Hakstol was not aware that was going on covertly. Any blame for that falls on Murphy and Hextall.

How bad of a groin injury did Frost have before? That sounds like something that could nag at him all season if he isn't properly rested.

That's why Hakstol was a totally different coach after Hextall was fired.
