Nice. Good move to get him locked up long term. He's got security and so does the team.

Anyone think Toronto didn't overpay Marner now? I love Marner but I'd take Chabot over him any day. And we are paying 3 million more a year? I don't get it.

Solid deal for the Sens and Chabot, he probably would have at got this deal next year, possibly more if he has another great year.

Took Trouba 6 years and ton of drama to finally score more than 33 points and he got the same deal. If Chabot can notch 55 while on his entry level deal, It is scary to think what he will do in a couple years. I would not be surprised if he gets 4 or more Norris nominations over the course of that contract. Great Signing for the sens!

I didn’t think they would reach an agreement on a deal this early..especially with the rfa class next year.

It’s one of those deals that’s a lot now, but could be great from years 3-8.

it's not really a lot now.....55pt dmen (who are healthy, gardiner has tons of question marks about his health) are getting around that much.

it's a fair deal now, and a (frank)ing steal moving forward (assuming he continues to trend up)

I like the Chabot deal, but Marner obviously does deserve much more.

Its a great deal. The best part is the young guys are buying into the team plan and want to be here. The Dorio/Melynk plan is coming together.

Player salaries have inflated faster than the salary cap has.... teams like Toronto, San Jose, Pitts, Washington will soon be in a real crunch.

Imagine if Crosby signed a shorder deal that ended 3-4 years ago... he would be making much more than $8.7 Million. He is infinitely better than Marner.

Cap friendly? Crosby is a STEAL for the next 5 years, who will then be signing a contract relative to his declining age/numbers.

Totally, by next year when the deal starts, he'll pretty much be an 8 million dollar dman compared to the rest of the league. Then it'll just get better every year.

It’s a lot man, not sure how else to look at it.
I get it, it’s the trend young guys are going towards off their entry (or in this case not even done their entry).
As of next season, chabot will be paid the same as burns, and more then Hedman.

I hope he continues to be the star we hope he can be, but at the moment, I’m still like geeeeeeeeeeezzz

Nice to briefly bask in the optimism at least until the season starts.

The Sens are in first,
Melnyk is broke and selling,
New owner is drying the ink on a Labretton deal,
Chabot, fresh off a new contract is in for the Norris,
Batherson the Calder,
Anisimov the Selke.
And the draft lottery awaits with a first overall!

Essentially the numbers are exactly as predicted. They neutralized the impact of a possible lockout year by reducing the salary to $4m for that year. They have now locked into Chabot until age 31. Brilliant move by Sens. Full marks to Dorion.

Melnyk is really hard to call.

I believe he is already more out than in and the team is in transition to a new ownership structure. Once it is confirmed that he is out (or moved to a secondary role) we will experience an explosion of joyous celebration.

But, like LeBretton it can all explode in an instant...."he is a very weak man and because of that he is very dangerous." Stay calm and know that our better angels are near.

Called that! Term and dollars!
