If jets trade Laine... the return would surely include a quality right side defenceman... which the flyers have none of... they are loaded on the left side... not the right

Myers is RH and is going to be a very good NHL defenseman in my opinion but I don't see him at the point in his development where he can be the center piece of a deal for Laine.

how would the flyers sign Laine without moving Voracek in the deal and how would they convince the Jets to take Voracek?

cant a see a fit based solely on cap reasons

Hard to deny his skill and play making ability, but I don't know if he is the type of player the Flyers need, versus one that can play a more physical style and score a little.

Agreed.

I can see something like Sanheim (born in Manitoba) and Konecny for Connor or Ehlers++.. but there's no Laine deal to PHI that makes sense for the Jets.

Flyers aren't trading Sanheim let alone in that deal. Flyers are not in the position of trading a young potential top pairing defenseman.

As much as the Trolls beat on EK - I was literally on the phone with him (and no I am only an NHL GM in my twisted mind) when he told me Peter Forsberg was coming to Philly. Three hours later - it was real. So not EVERYTHING he says is made up.

WPG is in BIG TROUBLE if Big Buff goes the way of Andrew Luck. Trouba and Myers and Buff being gone would leave that team in a scary place. Would big Morin somewhat fill the shoes of Buff? Perhaps they would want Sanheim or Meyers (fine by me)? What more would they want? How would you get Liane signed? With what money? Would Konecny go? Would that be enough cap space? I am not sure but I would be ALL OVER THIS if I were Fletch.

The Flyers have the key, young and cheap pieces that could stop the bleeding for WPG. No question.

Laine in Orange and Black literally makes the Flyers a NOW team. Window officially open.

Drouin will have more points ( points, not goal) than Laine this year and mostly lets trade our arguably 2nd best D when we are already very thin on D ?

pass for me

When you look at all the factors, assets they would have to trade, cap space required to sign a player who is currently without a contract and Laine's disappearing act last season, Fletcher should pass on Laine.

Not the right...? May be last year. Sanhiem, Nisky, Braunn are all R hand shot. The last two were picked up over the summer. These are the ones that should be in the starting line up. Each line should have a R and a L hand shot. Not to mention, they have several R hand shot in the minors.

I'm saying Laine can absolutely score, he is a hell of a player, but I think the Flyers could use a player who can score AND play a physical game.

The Jets would be moronic to trade Ehlers and Connor just to resign Laine.
I would laugh hysterically at the Jets if they did this deal.
Philly would win that deal hands down.

yes, with no cap in place. myers elc, sanhiem at just over 3 mil, Morin at less than 1 mil.. Konecny is at 5.5, but cannot see them move him for laine after signing a 6 year contract at a reasonable cap hit for someone who wants 10 mil a year.

If the Flyers want to trade... I'd be knocking on Calgary's door, before kicking the tires on Laine. Tkackuk is not signed, and it doesn't sound like he'll sign before real games start. I'd name-drop packages for Ghost or Jake and see if that stirs up and interest. Both are signed for a couple more years. Ghost is signed at a very reasonable number.
