Pretty much Can't forget that it's quantity that costs more cap for a team in tough as it is > quality - MaximumBone
12m left to sign Laine or 14.5m to sign Laine/Connor plus the 23rd. Find another team that can help the Jets in their window. |

But his presence on the line makes it a better line than two 3rd liners (one of whom is injury prone) and a hitherto unproven scorer in Buffalo and whatever you wanna call that LA Kings 2nd line. - MaximumBone
Probably. We’ll see soon enough. |

They did it the 'right way' by tanking too. Legit feel bad for the fans and players. They didn't even get better this year and McJesus might not even be ready to go. He's one knee away from being done for the year! - canucksfan1944
Hello Chiarelli-induced cap problems.
I'd love to say I'm convinced this time will be different, but I really can't say that. They went the route of another veteran "well respected" GM with a history that includes a number of noticeable flaws and a veteran systems coach. I think they're a definite improvement on their predecessors but they're not the injection of new blood and innovation that I think the franchise needs- just more of the same old-boys hockey. |

A near-elite, young 30+ goal scorer for a super injury prone shutdown RD UFA-to-be, an injury prone middle-6 scorer and a cap dump with 2 years on his deal. Would you trade Boeser for that? Of course you wouldn't.
Furthermore, it wouldn't be 12mil left to sign Laine. Your deal has them trading Connor ($0 current cap hit) for 4.45mil + 4.37mil + 3.36mil which is over 12mil of their currently remaining 15.4mil leaving them around 3mil to resign Laine. "Genius" across multiple dimensions. |

Podkolzin, Tanev, Hoglander & 2nd for Connor. |

You are late to the convo. It was suggested if Buff retires. Rework your math. 11m & 1m or more retained. Laine & 1 player for 23. |

Podkolzin, Tanev, & 2nd for Connor. - pker2theend
That's far more reasonable. I'd say no to it because I'm admittedly influenced by the Russian factor and the other assets leave too much risk. Then again, I'm also the guy who would trade Laine of the two. |

I was basing it off your initial post proposal; didn't read the rest. However, even if that's the case then your math is still off. If Buff retires, they add the 7.6mil to their current cap space of 15.4mil (total of 23mil) which is MORE than enough to sign both and still have the cap space to add a top-4 D. |

That option is out there but requires a trade for a RHD & 2 more signings. |

I'd also add in Hoglander, I would think about it if I was on the other side of the table. Probably wouldn't accept it if it was Boeser, but I also wouldn't accept Hall for Adam Larsson, so who knows. |

So instead they should take the option where they trade the equivalent of Boeser for Tanev, Baertschi and Sutter? |

Working on the premise Buff retires & they need C depth leaves the Jets in a bind after a rough offseason. I can see them dropping off & 1 more team in our sights to pass. |

I'm only worried about the Blues, Preds and maybe the Knights, the rest all have weaknesses to exploit. |

I think the Stars are close to that group if Pavelski does what he did in San Jose and if Hintz can take a step. Their D is solid with some high end punch, their systems keep things tight and Bishop was fantastic. |
