This is more to my liking. Also the quality of shots are more important to me than quantity. I’d like shot stats that say where eg top shelf or low blocker. Hitting the goalies crest i think count for nada.

Shot blocks tells me one of 2 things:
Good defensive play or poor attempts.

- Nighthawk

Well by shot quality, the sites I look at actually determine the quality of a shot based on where the player was on the ice. Shots from the crease/slot area are proven to be of better quality. Also, these sites consider one timers to be quality shots as well, less time for the goalies/dmen to get set.

The sweet thing is these sites also track passes, so a you can see if a player is good at teeing up one timers or passing the puck to players in near the net/slot for scoring chances.

They also track how well forwards gain the blue line with possession instead of turning it over or dumping it in. One site takes it a step further by evaluating what the forward does once he gains the zone. These stats expose guys like David Booth who used to be corsi beasts and great at entering the zone with the puck but would then settle for long range shots that the goalie would easily save. Virtanen and Bo for example are polar opposites, Jake has a habit of taking long range shots and Bo does a good job trying to drive the net when he's on a one man rush.

Defensively, they track how well a dman does at protecting his blue line by forcing turnovers or forcing dump-ins instead of allowing clean possession entries. Then they track the quality of shots the dman allows from the other team when he's on the ice. And finally, they track how well a dman can move or skate the puck out of their end instead of chipping it out or turning it over.

I find all of this data a hundred times more valuable than corsi or +/-

WPG has suspended Dustin Byfuglien for failing to report to camp. If he doesn’t report by opening day, WPG loses his cap hit until he does report.

Not nearly as ominous as it sounds. WPG still wants Byfuglien back but needs to protect roster and cap flexibility until they know his intentions.

The arguement for is Goldy's skillset is only for top 6 where Pearson and Baer can play other roles.

Anyway Goldy has to earn it and it will be an ongoing thing with Sven at least. Pearson may be Sutters steady wingman.

- NuckUp

I get that he still needs to earn it, but to justify a spot because he can’t play bottom six will have us drafting 5 overall again.

How is it possible that people feel Goldy deserves to be in the top 6 over Pearson and Baer?
What do you guys see that I’m missing?

- Kaynine

Pre-season. Too pumped too soon.

Canucks have been practicing all week with Leivo on PP1. Doesn't sound like he will be cut.

Jason Megna scored for the Avs. Funny how Canuck cast offs keep on ticking. Today's game will we see Hutton's smile turn styled by Petey?

I don’t believe anyone thinks Goldy deserves top 6 but rather his game is not bottom 6. Imo his 1 year show me contract tells us much.

I know lol right. Anyway almost on the first shift Petey and BB had good possession. But then later Hutton with first shot led to goal guess he's fighting back lol.... pre-season.

Leivo seems more bottom six or extra forward not PP1. Interesting experiment.

Gaudette getting it done with PP2. He will play for Canuck team this season... when is TBD.

No Mr. JB lol... that's Greener and NB lol... but I guess the thinking is that Bo may go to PP2 for balance. As Miller and Petey are good enough for faceoffs on PP1. So they are looking at other big forwards like Pearson and Leivo roving for tips net front...

Ok, I agree. But he needs to play both sides of the puck.....and produce when given the opportunity.

But, did you see him shine for 3 minutes, in the last pre-season game.
