The issue for me isn't Spezza per say, it's that an already poor defensive team traded away most of the better defensive players from last year both at forward and defence. Keeping pucks out of the net will be difficult. And as Dubas said, no one has won a cup with nothing but offence.

Muzzin is NOT slow, yes, he's not as fast a Rielly, or Gardiner... but he doesn't need to be. The fact the Dubas gave up a 1st ++ to get him is water under the bridge.

do you ever recall complaining that Gardiner never took the body, cleared the front of the net or played physically... yet those are traits that Muzzin has?

and if you want a combination of all the good traits of a defenseman... that costs north of 7M a year...

But then to bring in an equally poopty defender of his own zone in Barrie contradicts what they needed. Toughness just tends to come with good defensive defensemen.

To be fair, a good backup does matter. Pittsburgh likely loses in the first round if they didn't have Fleury. Imagine it was Hutch and not Fleury. No way they win the cup.

Andersen will demand to be highest paid goalie in 2 years. He’ll walk.

Marner will never live up to the contract.

Signing Tavares was a mistake.

Nylander sucks and is a greedy person...should have traded him for Seth Jones.

If you have a great team, it’s better to trade pending UFAs than to go for it, because it will help in the future...only to repeat the process in the future...

Any optimism is not allowed if you want to be a real fan. Leafs suck.
