I'm not one to be negative - he does some things well. He seems creative and smart with the puck on offense. On defense, he's very soft with the puck, indecisive, and honestly, a huge risk. The offensive contributions I've seen him bring in this very small sample size of 2 preseason games are not worthy compared to the defensive gaffes I've seen him make.

In the first game there were about 3 plays he made where I thought to myself, "If I wanted to make a video of what the hockey cliche "hard on the puck" meant, I'd use those plays demonstrate what it isn't".

I haven't seen anything to make me think he doesn't deserve more of a look especially considering how thin the Leafs are on the right side. He hasn't been spectacular but I think he hasn't looked lost.

Yeah, I'm with you. It's a small sample size, and all of these guys are bound to be feeling some pressure in the way they play. Liljegren has done some smart things, and I'd agree that his RHD battle gives him an edge. Schmaltz / Holl / Liljegren. There's a few games to go. I am currently of the opinion that Schmaltz probably has the inside track on that position, but Liljegren doesn't look like a liability.

Sandin has been better, I think - but the battle isn't between them.
