Murdered that pass ZAR
- Thorny87

There's at least a couple other players that deserve that roster spot over ZAR.

Kahun definitely had a better game this time around, but I'm still not very impressed by him at all. I'm hoping he looks very different playing with either Sid or Geno.

There was a time in the Shero/Bylsma era where that wasn't the case. They filled the 3rd and 4th lines with Dustin Jeffrey, Tanner Glass and Zach Sill. Gawd...gonna have nightmares tonight thinking of those plugs. Andrew Ebbitt, Marcel Goc, Taylor Pyatt...
- madmike71

For all the (very legitimate) criticism that can be laid at JR’s feet, let’s not forget that Shero absolutely had to go when he did. His later improvement in NJ can be directly attributed to the experience of getting rightfully canned in Pittsburgh.

The guy looks tentative or unsure. He seems to hesitate before making a play. I haven’t seen any of the traits that were mentioned after the trade.

Gotta agree with RW on Legare. He’s in the same position as Belerive was 2 years ago. Great to see him get those goals but he wasn’t exactly owning the ice before the the 2 in :23.
- Thorny87

Think that's kind of Legare's reputation and a big part of why he was drafted so late despite 45 goals. Dom even called him a PP weapon. He can score goals, but he won't do much else to wow you.

Still one of the first 3rd rounders to get a contract, maybe there is some hope...

The difference between being able to have 22 and 23 players is only about 300k, which they would get by cutting ZAR.

So I'll make Rino happy and say even at his small salary, it might make cap sense to just waive or trade ZAR if he still isn't sanding out.

He seems like a Neal type. Which is good if he has the right line mates.

I would’ve liked to see Marino get more PP time. They know what they have in Warf

There's definitely hope. He's got size and a special shot. Think that's a good start for a 3rd rounder.

The reports I read said his linemates were the ones who really drove play, but he was a big time finisher. There's a place for a guy like that. Hopefully he doesn't go the Sprong route and he improves his weaknesses.

Good comparison. Legare might not be able to carry a line, but if you mix him in with good players he'll help them finish more.

I hope they use the remaining 3 games for "more useful" line combinations, though my hope is not too high...

Likewise. I don't know why they brought Warf back. He's 29, a LD, and this is his 6th team (including Pens x2), and he has a total of 55 NHL games. He's just not any good and he's not going to get any better, so what's the point? I would rather they take a flier on an undrafted player or similar unknown young player.

Marino has stood out in a good way. Good job getting him for a 6th. Maybe try that again. I think Trotman is probably still ahead of him on the depth chart just because vet, but I could see Marino being the 3RD when Guds is gone in a year or two.

Couldn't watch a tap of that today. How was it overall?

I know to take anything said with a grain of salt, positive or negative.

It was a pretty evenly matched game despite CBJ dressing a better lineup.

-Marino looked good again
-Kahun had a better game, but still didn't real stand out.
-Blueger and Lafferty looked solid.
-CBJ got a lucky bounce to get the 2nd goal otherwise they probably head to OT.

Completely agree with Rino.

In other news, Sid was allowed to skip the non-roster training today, and Sully (obviously) sees Bjugstad as a penalty killer (https://mobile.twitter.co...s/1175513068215951362?p=p)

Tomorrow's lineup vs. Fedsy's crew (DET):

Aston-Reese
Blueger
Di Pauli

The most notable thing to me was the Pens were largely the faster team. Beat CBJ to a lot of pucks. The Pens didn't ice a lot of "finishing talent", but were pretty solid. Other than the names Rino mentioned, I'd add DiPauli was pretty good. I wish ZAR would emulate his determination.

So overall positive tone about them despite the loss, I like that. The previous game was extremely solid. Some encouraging stuff going on.

So no Sid again tomorrow. Has Sully or Sid said anything about his preseason plans ?

I think Marino is the only RHD, though I believe everyone but Joseph has played some on their off-side. Maybe Marino's big test will be playing with JJ.

Seems like they're just keeping him fresh. "Managing his workload".

Agree - it's almost as if ZAR thinks his spot is secure. I liked DiPauli's game, too. The only other thing I'll add to this and Rino is that Riikola is once again both good and bad and Warsofsky is meh at best. They are really thin at RD so I don't know why they are wasting time and a roster spot with Warsofsky at LD.

Vensel- John Marino and Sam Lafferty are both playing tomorrow, too, which means all four #Penguins preseason games so far. FWIW, Juuso Riikola played all six last year and made the team.

Don't know about making the team, though I'm starting to give Lafferty a chance to replace ZAR, but those are the guys that are impressing

I know us Penguins have to be depressed and debbie downers about everything... but this Legare crap is just stupid.

Kid hasnt taken a shift in the NHL regular season and he's already a bust like Sprong or a 1-D player like Neal.

To be honest, if we can get a talented guy like him in the lineup next year with that entry level contract, that's huge. The #1 problem Neal had was his attitude along with his laziness/lack of discipline. If Legare can come into the league with the same skill set as Neal but without that baggage... I'll take that everyday of the week.

Yohe said that his skating has been a lot better than what was reported in the scouting reports. It's a shame he has to waste a year in the CHL. I get the logic behind the rule, but is sucks for guys like him.

has Pierre Oliver Joseph been around at all? I havent heard his name. Between him, Legare, Poulin, Lafferty, Addison, etc... Pens putting a decent prospect pool together. Should really help plug the lineup in the last few years of Crosby/Malkin.

I've defended ZAR, but him and Rust look so comfortable and content. No drive from either of them. I get Rust. 2 Cups and played a big part in both runs... ZAR hasnt done anything.
