There is lots to like from the Panthers and i hink the all in approach with trying to rebrand and attract new fans is actually being done quite well. The commitment is huge.

But if there was one thing to change; THE (frank)ING SYNTHETIC PANTHER EFFECT AFTER A GOAL CALL AND AFTER EACH NAME IS ANNOUNCED.

Its got to be one of the dumbest things in the whole league. Embarrassing.

The rebrand was kind of strange to me in a sweater sense - but that’s just because I’m such a fan of the leaping cat logo, but I’m glad they at least brought back the palm tree in some capacity (on the helmet)

i can dig that. I dont think the rebrand, the $$ commitment to big time coachs and players is at all a hail mary to save the franchise, but its close. If we take into account the changing climate of the present and future economy, have not teams or teams in struggling markets have to adapt of they will be gone in 5 years. Spend money to make it, and if it doesn't work, the league has to react logically. For the panthers, The talent is there for some playoff action i think, but being in the toughest division, every out of division game is going to count 5 times more for everyone; i hope that action reverberates in some attendance in FLA and for passion from the players.

Side note, i think thats why the habs offer sheet was so good. Get a team like carolina that only makes 20 million at the gate,to have to pay 20 million up frnt when you make no money, sucks. Especially if they are forecasting a big economic downturn in the near future, and with the instability of our environmental future. In 5-7 years for the first time ever, youll start to see sporting events being affected by climate change and the way its going to impact economies, its cities and the wallets of paying fans. You will be talking about it on your sports shows!

Owners know this, but molson's team prints money for him and the league, its a no brainer to hit a weak, fragile franchise like carolina, in the pants like that. Unfortunately there are to many fans that cant think past their nose and have little to no insight and that shortsightedness inst immune to the media and its writers either.. The have not teams are going to be under more and more pressure to change; to many teams are being carried by the Canadian markets and a handful of US teams.

Panthers haven't really had much practice time to work on the way Q wants them covering on D.
Only a couple of practices and several scrimmages before setting out on a week long road trip. After spanking Dallas 6-0 Saturday night they don't go any further than Tampa the rest of preseason. They are home, the roster is currently down to under 30, I think the serious work on learning Q's systems begins today.

Cool article @NHL about Tallon and Q. Also some thoughts and tips on playing for Q from Patrick Kane.
-- No more than an hour after the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2010, Dale Tallon's phone rang.
It was Joel Quenneville.
Tallon had spent 33 years with the Blackhawks as a player, broadcaster and executive. He had endured hard times and helped build what would be a championship team. But he wasn't there when one of his draft picks, forward Patrick Kane, scored the Cup-clinching goal.
Instead, he was watching on television at the home of Florida Panthers executive Bill Torrey. He had been fired as general manager of the Blackhawks the year before and just been named GM of the Panthers.
Quenneville had become coach of the Blackhawks early in the 2008-09 season, and his veteran presence had helped put a young, talented roster over the top. He had become close with Tallon along the way.
He passed the phone around the locker room so the players could speak to Tallon.
"That brought a tear to my eye," Tallon said.
It says a lot about Quenneville, Tallon and their relationship that Quenneville thought of Tallon in that bittersweet moment.
Now Tallon has endured hard times and put together a young, talented roster in Florida, and he has hired Quenneville to put it over the top. They hope it will be like Chicago all over again.
With one exception.
This time, they want to celebrate a championship together.
"We feel there's an opportunity to create something special here," Quenneville said, "and so it's an opportunity to do something we really didn't get to finish."
